6. Gina Torres was in the movie?
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 11:23 PM by Graf Orlok
She was on the show "Angel" that was directed by Joss Whedon. She played Jasmine at the end of season four.

That's kinda funny.

8. If you're going to see this movie, see Joss Whedon's Firefly first.

26. We saw the movie without seeing Firefly
I don't know what we would have got from seeing the movie, but the movie does seem pretty self explanatory without the series. I thought that it was a great movie.

13. Yep. Adam Baldwin from the end of Season 5 Angel too
He was the new guy (big guy) the senior partners sent to replace Eve. Also had Nathan Fillion who played Caleb during end of Season 7 of Buffy. Good stuff. Serenity was written and directed by Joss Whedon. :)

19. Jayne! The man they call Jayne!
He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor
Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain
The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne

Now Jayne saw the Mudders' backs breaking
He saw the Mudders lament
And he saw the magistrate taking
Every dollar and leaving five cents
So he said, "You can't do that to my people"
He said "You can't crush 'em under your heel"
Jayne strapped on his hat
And in five seconds flat
Stole everything Boss Higgins had to steal

He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor
Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain
The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne

Now here is what separates heroes
From common folk like you and I
The man they call Jayne
He turned 'round his plane
And let that money hit the sky
He dropped it onto our houses
He dropped it into our yards
And the man call Jayne
He turned 'round his plane
And headed out for the stars

He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor
Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain
The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne!

27. A true hero's hat
An unlikely hero - accidental even.. but still. Kinda like Tom Baker's scarf in Doctor Who - somehow it works. Nice. :)

9. Continuation of a 2002 tv show called "Firefly"
Easily the best thing on television since the new millenium (apart from "Futurama").

Cancelled long before its due because FOX never had a solid interest in the show and had bought it because of the name "Joss Whedon". Once they saw some of the finished product, they killed it off by airing several episodes out of order, thus ensuring few would know WTF was going on.

Unfortunately it developed a huge cult following.

While the 2 hr pilot (proper order) is a bore, it otherwise sets up the characters' backgrounds. Subsequent episodes take great joy in fleshing out the characters.

I'm hoping Serenity is a success. FF should NEVER have been cancelled.

Firefly itself seemd an amalgamation of The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape, Blake's 7, and a John Wayne western thrown in for asthetics. It's a unique setting, but the plots are VERY gritty and is the most innovative, engaging show SINCE "Blake's 7".

Many episodes openly dare to question societal norms. But rather than pandering to melodramatic, mauldin preaching, this show uses action along with presenting ideas - some of which from novel angles - in a manner that gets the viewer to actually think about their beliefs.

Best of all, this show is American-made. Finally, an American show requiring brains. No wonder it got killed off so quickly.

16. I didn't like Firefly when I first saw it on Fox
They played the episodes out of order, and it just didn't grab me.

I gave it a 2nd chance on the sci-fi channel, and I was hooked.

17. Well, if you insist . . .
Serenity results from fasting for 7 days, ingesting only pure water.

Consult a doctor to learn how to begin this regime before trying, and how to gradually add liquids and foods back into your body.

180 proof whiskey excepted.

:)

22. check-out the library...
for "Firefly".

just this last week I saw my first three episodes of "Firefly" courtesy of my local library.

WOW

This is as good as "Star Trek". Just those three episodes made me want me to watch the movie.

Firefly is the name of the ship...it's a crap car (metaphor) living on the fringe...peopled by transcendents, traditionals, trickle and all other trinities questing for transcendence, tradition, trickery, tripe or triumph...youno; left or right or the third eye from the sun...or the looser playing left-field...who catches the fly ball.

I think I'll take my children to this movie for their birthday, you know how that goes?...
