Americans Plan Record Spending For Halloween

WASHINGTON -- Halloween is coming up at the end of the month, and people are getting ready by dusting off their pointy hats and brooms and their wallets.

A survey conducted for the National Retail Federation finds that consumers expect to spend nearly $3.33 billion for a scary holiday this year. That's an increase of nearly 5.5 percent from last year.

And a good chunk of the increase is expected to come from young adults. According to the survey, Halloween is a favorite holiday among young adults, proving that some consumers are never too old to play dress-up.

Halloween remains the sixth-largest spending holiday after Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day.

I know. I know. But my kids really like it and Halloween is the only holiday not associated with family type sturm and drang.
