Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susan the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to.

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again.

Turned on the radio in the car and it came on. I've heard it countless times but for some reason this time it really hit me for some reason.

Goodness where are my manners? Belated WELCOME TO DU!!

4. Most of the songs I loved as a teenager
are even more special now. I've lived through good and bad and can truly relate.

Sorry to get philisophical on you. Can throw away the tv, but never my music.

6. sweet baby James
deep greens and blues are the colors I choose...
BTW ...have you ever heard his first album:
"James Taylor and the original flying machine"
Just knocking around the zoo on a Thursday afternoon...
and if I'm feeling edgy
they will hit me with a needle...

9. I think this is a good one, too:
Oh, the glory of true love
Is a wild and precious thing
It don't grow on old magnolias
Or only blossom in the spring
No, the glory of true love
Is it will last your whole life through
Never will go out of fashion
Always will look good on you

You can climb the highest mountain
Touch the moon and stars above
But Old Faithful's just a fountain
Compared to the glory of true love

Glory Of True Love

14. A snip of one of my favorite James Taylor's:
I'm not the kind to use a pencil or rule
I'm handy with love and I'm no fool
I fix broken hearts, I know but I truly can

If your broken heart should need repair
Then I am the man to see
I whisper sweet things, you tell all your friends
They'll come runnin' to me

By someone left out. Always the bridegroom never the groom.

15. Hi CaliforniaPeggy,
It's always a pleasure to see you.

I saw John Prine in 1976 in Ann Arbor Michigan,
when I was a full time hippie.

I am glad he is still singing.

12. Being from NC and
having graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill(JT'S hometown), I'll add this. I'm sure my fellow North Carolinians will agree.

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Karin she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

There ain't no doubt it no ones mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

Dark and silent last last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

With a holy host of others standing 'round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind

In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind

21. No, I'm not. However
one of the great loves of my life was from NC.

I still miss her from time to time.

And that sweet baby James brings a bittersweet
tear to my eye.

17. James Taylor can do no wrong, in my book. I love that man!
What a songsmith! I have ALL his stuff.

However, I thought the girl's name in the song was "Suzanne", not "Susan".

No biggie...

20. I actually had a lover in the 1970's named Susan, who kind of
unexpectedly was taken away. She was a nice woman, and I always wondered what became of her.

It sort of bugged me, and though I'd always hated that song up to then, it kind of grew on me.

I went through labor and delivery of my second child listening to his Greatest Hits. His songs are so relaxing, they feel like going home.

25. Thanks for helping bring back wonderful memories
The man who has been my best friend since college is named James. We used to listen to James Taylor constantly back in college. For several years in the mid-90s JT played shows in Texas right around my birthday and we'd always go. Nothing in the world is better than laying on a hill on a blanket with your best friend listening to "Sweet Baby James". :)

27. This one always makes me cry
It was written for his brother (Alex?) after he died.
====================================================
Enough To Be On Your Way

So the sun shines on his funeral just the same as on a birth,
the way it shines on everything that happens here on Earth.
It rolls across the western sky and back into the sea
and spends the day's last rays upon this fucked-up family, so long old pal.

The last time I saw Alice, she was leaving Santa Fe
with a bunch of round-eyed Buddhists in a killer Chevrolet.
Said they turned her out of Texas, yeah, she burned them down back home,
now she's wild with expectation on the edge of the unknown.

Singing oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough just to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.

They brought her back on a Friday night, same day I was born.
We sent her up the smokestack, yes, and back into the storm.
She blew up over the San Juan Mountains, she spent herself at last.
The threat of heavy weather, that was what she knew best.

Oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.

It woke me up on a Sunday, an hour before the sun.
It had me watching the headlights out on highway 591.
Till I stepped into my trousers, till I pulled my big boots on,
I walked out on the Mesa and I stumbled on this song

Oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough just to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.
So long, old gal.

I was feeling reflective when I heard the song yesterday. To me it really wasn't heartbreaking when I heard it. More like hopeful for the future.
