Freeper in my econ class explained to me why unemployment is rising |
|
and I quote..."More people are opting for leisure time activities over work" I was so stunned I almost couldn't respond, and when I did, the best I could do was "You are fucking insane" So much for my liberal intellectual elite image:rofl:

3. Those "more leisure time" folks do not register for unemployment benefits |
|
and are therefore not counted in the unemployement rate. Also not counted are the ones for whom the benefits have run out, but are still unemployed. And how about those who are underemployed, they are not counted either.

but the best I could do at the time was "You're fucking insane". I wish I could have that moment back...then again, he's a true believer in Malthusian theory...no reasoning with those types.

How long do you have to go without looking for work for the BLS to stop counting you? I think it is 3 or 6 months. They sample 55,000 households to come up with the unemployment rate.. They do this by telephone.

and all his CEO business buddies?
At the ranch, on the yacht; a few are in jail now, aren't they? Wouldn't that qualify as 'leisure time'?

12. I did a work study with a freeper who never shut up. He said |
|
"I don't know why people blame Bush for the joblessness. There are too many people in the world. That's the problem. It's not his fault. If there were less people in the country, the joblessness wouldn't be a problem."
He actually said that. I have wanted so badly to send an email asking him if he was happy since Katrina wiped out so many people. He was always saying that things like that were good for the country. He said it would help the rest who survive. I wanted to put an email together with images of NOLA coupled with the latest post Katrina news about joblessness going up since the hurricane and ask him if he was happy now. He was such a fucking jerk. Never shut up about how great he thought bush is. :puke:

16. it is typical of labor econ |
|
to pretend as if people have a choice about whether to work or not. I could never figure that out. Isn't that true for less than 30% of the population?
But that person was clearly factually in error anyway, because in order to be "unemployed", by definition you need to be actively seeking work. Once you opt for leisure over work, then you are no longer in the labor force.

18. A couple weeks some nutjob wrote a letter to the editor and stated... |
|
they will always be outnumbered by leftist anti-war protestors at protests because they all have jobs and can't attend protests. All leftist anti-war protestors don't have jobs and are trust fund babies with nothing else to do.
I think the editors at the San Francisco Chronicle do a great job at picking the best whackjob letters for publication.
