8. Surreal ending; Texas Tech wins, 34-31 |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 06:31 PM by Awsi Dooger
Texas Tech threw a pass from about the Nebraska 15 with just over a minute remaining. It turned into a tipped ball that went straight up. There were several Cornhuskers who could have picked it off. But the lug Nebraska defensive lineman, #66, who got the interception was too stupid to fall on the ball. He fumbled the ball back to the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech faced a 4th and 2 with 19 seconds remaining and Nebraska blew up the intended quick pass for a first down, but the Tech QB improvised and finally hit the game winning TD pass over the middle.

I guess the goofiness is starting to follow Tech around now. Fun game though.

I just didn't want to get slaughtered like :cough:lastyear:cough:. Some very encouraging signs of life from the offense, and the defense showed up after the 1st quarter. Overall, WTG Huskers!

The Aggies were just slow to start due to the high altitude and low temps. (this is where you nod and say, "yup, that's it!") ;)

10. I'm still highly encouraged though |
|
I mean, nobody actually thought we'd go undefeated this year, for pete's sake. One loss, so far, to a #13 team. Coming back from 21-0. 31 points out of a previously non-existent offense. Some really great defensive stops.
Sure, we've still got kinks, but I'm ok with the results.

20. It just doesn't look right, nothing but passing from Nebraska |
|
Before the 80 yard run today, Nebraska had something like 40 yards rushing. Then they're at the 3 yard line and throw a fade pass. Granted, it turned into a TD but that type of finesse football belongs elsewhere. The Cornhuskers should smack people, not tickle them.
One thing the announcers mentioned amazed me: if Nebraska had won, it would have been the greatest margin of comeback in school history, from 21 points down. I guess that's the copout theory, that a running team couldn't make comebacks like that.
But in the old days I would always bet Nebraska at home to maul a pantyhose team like Texas Tech. They seldom let me down. Now they're of the same mold and I think it's sad to watch. No balance = no chance. You're not going to get premier skill position players to come to Lincoln in masses. Those kids will go to USC or the Florida schools or elsewhere. Nebraska doesn't have high population or great high school football to produce a home grown championship. I think the old smashmouth method was best for your program.

22. Many, many Husker fans agree with you |
|
I'm still withholding judgement, although many things about the new program piss me off greatly. Namely, the implementation of an NFL West Coast offense without any easing in...the very reason we sucked hard core last year. I honestly think that Callahan came in with a bit too much gusto, but he'll learn about the balance, eventually. In fact, I believe he is starting to see it. Heck, he even tossed in a power-I formation today. ;)
I do disagree that we can't recruit the skill players. Our recruiting class this year was one of the best in the country. We've never counted on Nebraska natives for the skill positions, we use them for the lines instead. That's no different, really. Even with a running game, we had to have receivers, etc.
On the other hand, under Solich the Huskers were stagnating at best, going to hell in a handbasket at worst. HE is the one who couldn't recruit anybody from out of state, and that was beginning to show. Callahan has only had one recruiting class to fix that damage, and I think he's shown that he's capable.

17. I couldn't watch the last quarter |
|
I get so mad when Tech does its blow-the-lead, rack-up-the-penalties game. Came in here to DU, closed the door, put cotton in my ears, and went "LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA." Told hubby to be very, very quiet. No "Damnit, what's the matter with you idiots !!" or "YES! Way to go!" But, WE WIN! 'pede, Texas Tech class of 1970.

It was an exciting game, at least! I hear what you're saying about the last quarter. That's how I felt for the first one! Now if only our QB could learn how to hold on to the ball...sigh.

25. I have a lot of respect for Nebraska. |
|
I remember the first time I saw Tech play the Huskers. It was on TV from LBK and I was watching with some friends. It may have been a non-conf game before the Big 12 came into being. Anyway, it was on ESPN and someone held up a sign saying "ezra says pound nebraska." And one of my friends says "You Tech people sure have funny names." I did what I call a "yard spit," meaning the beer in your mouth spews at least 36".
