Wallace and Gromit escape fire
however many others perished.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005470240,00.html

THE “whole history” of Wallace and Gromit makers Aardman Animations went up in smoke yesterday in a suspected arson attack on a warehouse.
But the plasticine inventor and his dog — whose movie The Curse of the Were-Rabbit has shot straight to No1 at the US box office — were safe inside creator Nick Park’s heavy-duty suitcase.

The blaze ripped through the warehouse near Bristol’s Temple Meads railway station, destroying nearly 30 years of sets, scripts and storyboards.

Models and sets from Oscar-winning hits The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave were destroyed.

Props and characters from Chicken Run, Aardman’s first feature-length release, also perished.

3. What a horrible feeling
A few years ago, I sat, working the polls, watching the smoke from a warehouse fire a few miles away. A friend called to tell me that as I sat there, 12 years of props from a huge Gilbert & Sullivan opera company were burning. As props mistress for 12 years, I had designed or made most of them myself.

In the same fire, some people's livelihoods were destroyed - small companies went under, so in relative terms, what happened to me was nothing.

But it still made me sick to imagine all those hours and hours and weeks and months of work going up in flame.

Poor Nick Parks.

At least Wallace & Gromit and the cool sets will live on forever on film...(they live on DVD at my house, at least)

4. I'm so sorry for your loss
I know it can be soul shattering to lose your art. I saw a little lead-in on the new last night, and I feel deeply for the loss these guys and their crew must be feeling.
