My Cellphone Died - What Service do you recomend?
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 03:07 PM by Ravenseye
I need a new phone, but no matter what I need a new carrier...since I was ATT I can't get a new ATT phone or new ATT service.

What mobile services do people recomened?

I dont' care about particular phones, I'm getting whatever is free/cheapest.

1. I have sprint and have had good luck with it.
My husband's corporate phone is ATT, and he has much worse reception than I do.

7. My last phone was sprint and had terrible reception
I guess it sounds like depending on wher eyou are your reception differs. I wish tehre was an easy way to test what reception you have in your area. I really only care about whether I get reception in my office.

2. I have no cell phone whatsoever,
And I highly recommend everybody going that way. Is all that chatter and distraction really necessary? Besides, everytime you turn that damn thing on, you're sending out a GPS signal that allows you to be located anywhere, down to the foot.

5. If I could I'd get rid of it
I'd get rid of my home phone too. If someone really needs to reach me they can send me a telegram.

Unfortunately, it's my work phone. If I dont' have it I wont' be able to pay the mortgage.

8. OK then, that's cool
I just find the number of people who have cells for no good reason to be absolutely astounding. And I find the damn things a very annoying intrusion into my life, even though I don't own one.

But hey, I understand the whole work and mortage thing, you gotta do what you gotta do.

10. I was just telling my wife
That I honestly, if I could, would stop paying any money to these companies...

No cellphone, no phone. Just internet, maybe not even that. I bet I wouldn't miss it after awhile.

I totally agree though, most people are just little chatty cathy's on their cellphones. I'm not a phone guy. I don't call people to chat. If they call me we get down to business (even if it's a personal call) and then I get off. I dont' like talking to people that i'm not in the same place as. It unnerves me. I like to read people physically while I talk to them.

12. well

I used to have one for work and it was a pain. Now I have one mainly for emergencies, like if I am stuck in traffic and late to pick up the kid.

And for other emergencies, like calling for take-out. On the "they can track you" question, I don't think I am important enough to track.

BTW, I have Virgin Mobile pay as you go. Cheaper from what I can see.

6. I've had excellent luck with T-Mobile...
but it is interesting. My friend has Sprint, and he gets really poor reception in my section of the city. I have T-Mobile, and I get really poor reception in his section of the city. And another pal has Cingular, and is ok in the city, but has poor reception in the burbs. Very, very odd.

16. Cricket!!!!
If it is available in your area.
UNLIMITED min. for $35
Unlimited min and unlimited Long Distance for $40
Unlimited min, LD, text, picture, IM,voice mail, callID and Call Wait $45.

THE CATCH: only get service in your city. That is changing, however. I have been with them for 4 years; I live in Greensboro NC. I get free service all the way to, from and IN Charlotte which is an hour away, and the just started offering 30 min. of roaming for an extra $3 a month. I don't have a camera phone, but I could if I wanted to.I pay a total of $56 a month. UNLIMITED min. anytime. LOVE it.Haven't had too many issues with service (dropped calls/no connecton)either.
Right now the special is get a new phone for $54 and service for $45 =total $99. For a phone AND service. Can't beat it.
NO, I do not work for them everyone!

17. I have Cingular
and I don't think their service is the best.

Speaking of cell phones being an annoyance:
I share an office with a woman and she lays her cell phone on her desk, on vibrate and a really loud annoying ring, just for her kids and husband to call her, which they do about 25 times a day. The reason they call her cell and not her office phone, their family plan lets them all talk for free. I guess thats a good reason but I bet she spends over an hour of her work day, eveery day talking to her kids or husband.

I keep my phone on vibrate in my purse when I'm at work.

18. T-Mobile is okay.
I've had less problems with them than with most of the other services I've had. The best I had was Verizon.

19. I have Cingular
I am happy with it. The only place I go that does not have any coverage is Rio Wisconsin, where, frankly, I do not want to be reached anyway...leave a voicemail!

20. I use Consumer Cellular
Cheap to delux plans and NO CONTRACTS.

I use my cell phone very little, so I pay $20/month for 100 anytime minutes with no roaming charges.
