Please tell my why I laughed maniacally at the McMansion neighborhoods?
Drivin' home, I saw fields full of McMansions. All nicely lit with their walmart plastic halloween crap and/or chinchy sidewalk lights.

For some reason I started bursting out laughing.

Felt good.

But I don't know why. Or maybe I do?

1. Because they have to pay
the mortgage, insurance and heating/cooling costs, and you don't.

3. I pay for all those things...
Though I rent rather than "own". I do pay for heating and cooling. (moreso cooling as I live higher up in a multistory complex and heat rises... :D )

5. But nothing like they do.
Inattention to siting, thin insulation, and useless open space conspire to make heating and cooling costly. Big houses mean big prices and big mortgages. And big prices means higher insurance.

6. Gooed call. Pity they're so shoddily built; lacking insulation...
A bit dumb, but I doubt the construction companies will be sued. (pity.)

7. They're designed to make quick money
Not to be a habitable shelter.

8. Nasty. The human-created concept of value has met its zenith, I fear.
God did not create value. Mankind invented it.

Pity.

2. I don't live in a McMansion by any means, but I do have a lot of
Halloween decorations. The kids really like it and this is the one holiday that doesn't involve any familial guilt.

4. Because of the irony
Such wholesome seeming settings built upon the backs of others suffering and oppression. Sometimes ya just gotta laugh at the hypocrits.

12. Huge houses on tiny lots................
I laugh too, especially when I think of the taxes the pay, and the cost of upkeep. The developers are sure raking it in. Somehow they don't fit the white picket fence dreams of our parents.

13. I like the tract mansions, with a four car garage but built from cheap
particle board and put up about five feet from each other with no yard on any side. You'd be better off in a tent, but you can tell all your friends you have a four car garage (to put your '97 Neon)
