Do you have any surrogate family? |

My mom died when I was a teenager and my dad wasn't really around. I had three friends whose parents kind of took on the role of parent to me as well and I've always appreciated that. I think it gave me some guidance at a time I really needed it.
Later, when I had kids, I was kind of like that for a couple of my kids' friends which is kind of neat.
Anyone else have people like that in their lives?

It was funny because she was the same age as my mother would have been. Her oldest child was my age and her youngest was only a year older than my youngest. And it hurt like hell when she died of breast cancer, the same as my own mother had.

My best friend and I would spend a week at her house, or a week at mine on and off during the summers, and together every weekend during the school year. She is from a very large family and her older brother was also best friends with one of my older brothers. We called each others parents mom and dad (still do more than 20 years later). It was just as heart breaking for her when my father died.
We both see it as we had two sets of parents growing up. It was cool. It really sucked when I moved to Maine, really pissed our parents off with the phone bills, and we visited several times a year. Sometimes our school vacations wouldn't match up and she'd come up here and go to school with me, or I would go down there and go to school with her. I even went to her prom.
