So how's this for a pisser?
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 06:32 PM by WilliamPitt
My girlfriend went out yesterday to run some errands. She stopped for 10 minutes at a place called City Feed in Jamaica Plain to grab a cup of coffee. She took her wallet, keys and iPod with her, but left her bag on the front seat of the car.

She came out ten minutes later and her bag was gone. There was a $400 digital camera in there, along with her cell phone, some cash, and a shitload of basically worthless stuff, but stuff that has significant personal and sentimental value to her. For example, she had a Zippo lighter from San Francisco I bought for her while we were out there in the bag, along with a few things that had belonged to her father, who died of cancer a few years ago. She was crashing a work deadline at the time, too, and didn't have even a minute to spare to deal with it.

But here's the pisser. The dicknose asshat fucktoast douchenuts who got into her car and took the bag didn't just take the bag. Oh no. He left his baseball cap sitting on the seat where the bag had been...just sitting there like a calling card, like "Hey bitch, I got your stuff, but here's this hat." It wasn't accidental, like he left it in haste. It was arranged just so.

The good news is the Jamaica Plain police just called and said they found the thing, so she went out just now to get it back. Will the camera still be there? The phone? The Zippo? Her father's stuff? Who knows, but at least she'll get the bag back. I'll post when I hear more.

The hat thing...man, that just burns me up. It isn't enough that whoever did this is a fucking scumbag thief. No, he has to be insouciant about it. It's a crappy hat, too.

1. Why would he leave his hat? That's just bizarre.
Maybe, just maybe he it fell like that? I'm just sayin'.

But it sucks to have your car broken into, its happened to me a few times. You just feel feckin' violated.

I hope they recovered her stash.

2. Just tell me it wasn't a Yankees cap.
Sorry to make light - that truly sucks. I hope (against hope) that her belongings are still in that bag. What the fuck is wrong with some people....

3. No, it wasn't a Yankee cap
The symbol on it is one I am not familiar with, kind of a silver/black starburst thing. She brought it to the police station with her when she went to get the bag back. Since she hasn't called me yet, I am assuming the phone wasn't there anymore. :grr:

5. Make sure she contacts her provider right away.
He could be racking up a bunch of calls that she shouldn't have to pay for.

4. That sucks!
I think the hat was the asshole's way of saying, "Fuck you, lady! I got your stuff!" What an awful thing for your girlfriend to go through.

10. Phones and cameras can be replaced.
I'm glad to hear that the sentimental things, the things that cannot be replaced, were still in the bag.

14. Was her phone insured?
I have kids with phones on my plan. So all of our phones are insured.

Don't ask how many have been lost/stolen. Sore subject at our house. :)

11. What an awful situation, Will!
I am relieved to hear that she got all her stuff back except the phone and the camera....

And those can be replaced.....

BTW...allow me to threadjack......I went to my first pre-endorsement caucus today.....

And I voted for Marcy Winograd! Alas, though, she did not get the necessary 70% needed for endorsement......against Jane Harman....

But it was exciting, and fun......My first caucus!

I did drop your name, and scored some points! :woohoo:

12. Her homeowners insurance should cover the camera and phone.
Renters/homeowners...whichever she has.

17. Deductible?
My homeowners deductible is $1000. Does that apply to theft?
