Princess Mononoke or My Neighbor Totoro? |
|
I prefer Totoro. It is "magical", imo. The detail is amazing and the story is touching. There are a couple of elements reminiscent of Alice of Wonderland but softer.

Totoro is fun, and it's even beautiful at times, but Mononoke is pure visual crack and story-line heroin.
Though Totoro wins in the laughter category.
But I think my fave Miyazaki is Spirited Away.

4. I like Spirited Away better than Mononoke for the plot, etc. |
|
I really like the Nature message in Mononoke but there is just something about Totoro that grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. I think it is the rural beauty and the simple way of life as shown in the story. It was set in the 30s (?) or thereabouts. I would just love to be able to live out in the country and enjoy an unspoiled landscape as depicted in the picture. Anyway. It came out in 88. I only saw it for the first time recently. I still haven't seen the other films named in the thread. I look forward to seeing them all. I might change my pick then.
