"Enterprise" opening credits theme tune - love it or hate it?
I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :puke: :puke: :puke:

It tries to sound brave and macho with its lyrics but comes across all limpy and wussy, much like most of today's so-called "entertainment".

1. Puke.
It's up there with the vocal theme song from "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." The movie, that is, not the TV series, which wisely turned it into an instrumental.

7. EEK!!!!
BRit25thC had vocals for the movie pilot?

OMG!

I wish sci-fi would air BRit25thC again, just for a reminder as to how awful it was... it's still better than any number of "original" movies they air, which are all ripoffs of theatrical movies anyway. :eyes:

25. Well, they do air
many of the series episodes weekly. Tuesday had 4 back to back episodes. They finally jumped seasons to when Buck and his friend Hawk (Wilma, too) left earth in the "Searcher" in order to discover the lost tribes of earth.

Sound familiar?

28. "Far beyond this world I've known...
Far beyond my dreams

Who am I, what am I, what have I done
Where am I going
And where have I been"

I believe those (or something like them) were the lyrics to the Buck Rogers song, though I have tried to repress them for the last 20 or so years. :puke:

The Enterprise theme song, unfortunately, is just as dumb. And why they would hire an international opera star to do a Rod Stewart impression when they could have gotten the original cheeseball, I'll just never understand.

6. Indifferent.
The lyrics seem uplifting, but you wonder where they are coming from.

The show itself sucks. They promised a clunky fledgeling starship where the 1st engineer routinely bumps his head on low-hanging pipes and dramatically fixed 90% of problems with duct tape.

Most of the technology is very TNG-like, and the temporal cold war is bullshit. Just like in TNG, they reserect "Q" whenever they have a lapse of imagination.

Sorry to say it, but Star Trek is dead.

8. Like the tune, dislike the show...
I never could understand why everyone has so much against the opening music. Maybe it doesn't work for you, but at least it went in a new direction, different from all the previous three series' slow ponderous orchestral scores.

Unfortunately, this is the only thing that went off in a new direction. I, too, was looking forward to having "rough" technology, no transporters, no translating devices... but instead we're getting "Voyager Generation Lite", with a sexy Vulcan instead of 7of9.

9. It is F*CKING APPALLING!!!!!!!!!! RANT....KILL......DESTROY...............
Seriously - the one thing that has stopped me watching the show is the theme music, which IMHO represents nearly everything that is bad about America.....

Lame-ass soft-rock uninspiring tune, horribly cliched lyrics mistaken for profundity and depth and sung by a constipated halfwit.

It prevents any build up of tension whilst simultaneously annoying the living shit out of any reasonable, Bryan Adams-hating individual with a soul.......

Why on Earth did they decide to abandon the tried and tested instrumental theme and replace it with a shocking ballad?

Assholes.

P.

11. You'll be happy to know it is being changed...
...though I've never considered a show's opening theme/credits indicative of how much I do or don't enjoy a show.

I don't like Smallville's them but LOVE the show.

I LOVE the Waltons theme but hated the show.

Just about any other 80s Power Ballad would be an improvement over this one.

15. I love the show...
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 08:28 PM by wyldwolf
Coventina, it has become fashionable to bash Star Trek. Granted, Enterprise recycles plots, but so did the rest of them. I believe the true Enterprise critics are really just tired of Star Trek in general. The show either needs to improve dramatically to pacify the naysayers (which it promises to do) or it should bow out and give Trek a rest for 10 years or so.

Has nothing, NOTHING whatsoever to do with Star Trek. I can occasionally get into the show if I manage to miss the opening song.

16. LOL at that pathetic Muzak fakey folk tune!
I sneer contemptuously at its facile sentimentalism. Astonished at its clueless provincialism. Dooms the series to an unfortunate fate: being forgotten. In short, I hate the damned thing.

About the opposite of how I feel about the Farscape theme, which might be just about the best thing about the show. Exciting, original, and redolent of exotic, futuristic locales and cultures. Really really good.

23. "Its Payback Time" - ???!!!!!
PLEASE tell me the next season(s) isn't going to revolve around some selfrighteous war on terrism - please!

I'm glad they have the Star Trek tagline back, and happy the song is gone, but man, are we gonna see pics of awol on the ship now?

If they would just can Bakula (badly needed) and pick up the pace a little, the show would warp into recovery, imho. As it is, they all seem to be constipated or something...

Its hard to imagine how the show could get much worse, and any change is bound to be an improvment, but please, please don't let this turn into a shoot first, question later war without end by some futuristic gwshrub.

I hate it even more since it's in the Muzak(sp?) rotation at work. For the first time in recorded history, I yearn for a theme song from John (the thief, and Hollywood hack) Williams.

20. Rick Berman is the BIG problem I have with Trek
Upon Gene Roddenberry's untimely death, Berman gained all the power over Trek, but not even a sliver of Roddenberry's vision or ambition. Berman as the supreme overseer of Star Trek is little more than the all to typical corporate bureaucrat, totally conventional and lacking in creativity to the point of utter incompetence in a field that demands fresh ideas and perspectives in order to thrive. The reason why Trek post-TNG has recycled so many old stories is simply because Berman/Paramount isn't willing to pay for new quality writers and producers. Why pay someone a handsome salary for new stories, when you have several decades of old material that can simply be rehashed from the perspective of a new series? I'm sure that's how Berman looks at things, despite admitting once that the Great Bird trusted him not to go to the well too many times. So much for good judgement, eh? DS9 started with good promise, but wound up scraping at the bottom towards the end. The well definitely ran dry for Voyager, however, barely a few episodes into the first season. Enterprise has been the ultimate demonstration of futility, much like tossing a bucket tied to a rope at a bone dry riverbed and expecting to pull it back filled to the brim with water.

I say fire Berman, give it all a rest for a decade or two, and then hire a few creative, visionary Trekkers to reignite the flame. I might suggest that they start by creating a timewarp that negates everything from near the end of TNG's Season Four, and pick things up again with a "Next Generation Beyond" crew and NCC 1701-F 50 years down the road.

Except for the other day in the grocery store... a LONG full length version of the intro song was playing on Muzak. Can you believe it?
