I've been asked to say "grace" at a Jackson Day Dinner
which, apparently is the same thing as what we called Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Iowa--a big, important Democratic to-do.

I'm quite excited!

2. Thank you. And the cool thing is they've asked Tom Vilsack to be the
speaker, but last I heard he hadn't confirmed yet. I voted for him, and would love to tell him so face to face!

5. Very cool...
When is it? It's not something I've ever heard of. A liberal/democratic-party holiday?

7. Fundraiser/annual dinner for the local party
As I say, in other places I've heard it called "Jefferson-Jackson Dinner", but here it's the "Jackson Day Dinner". I saw a thing about Jackson and the Trail of Tears on the History Channel the other day, which left me wishing we'd call 'em "Jefferson-Roosevelt" Dinners, or something.

Here's a wiki article:

8. I feel honored, although the party chair said most clergy wouldn't

do it. Catholic priests would catch crap from the pro-life crowd, and fundies wouldn't even consider it. They haven't had a pastor do it in some time. I'm more than happy to step up to the plate! Somehow they knew I'd be willing to do it--and that makes me proud.

9. Can you get away with just saying "grace"
or do you have to speechify a bit? I'd go with short and sweet myself. "Grace." Done.

10. I considered that, but they're feeding me, so I should prolly do a little
something to earn dinner. I thought about thanking God that we only have two more years of the Chimp, but tactfully. I'm still pondering.
