"Planet of the Apes" is one of the only justifications for the existence of Charlton Heston.

Usually the History Channel tries to legitimize showing movies by first airing a program with a facile connection. They probably had some show about Darwin, the first chimp in space, or world record for feces throwing on before.

it had obvious racial overtones.

Then again, it's probably just so a bunch of numbnuts can fantasize about being Charlatan Heston - alone with his gun, his woman who can't speak, and a bunch of dirty apes.

That said, I love the movie.
