Can we talk about facial cleansers?
I need a recommendation for a good facial cleanser. I'm 46 and my skin is very sensitive - I break out if I use things that have a lot of perfumes or that sort of thing.

In addition, it tends to get oily on my forehead and chin but if I use anything too strong, gets very dry on my cheeks. :)

When I was younger, it was more resilient and I could abuse it more but now it's driving me nuts. I'm using the Swiss Formula Apricot Scrub on it which is about the only thing I've found that doesn't dry it out and still keeps the oiliness down to a dull road but if anyone has any better ideas, I'm listening.

I use these products
www.skinceuticals.com

Consider yourself warned - they are expensive. I spend about $150 twice a year on products. I am 38 with very sensitive skin. These products work so well that I have been told on many occasions that (a) I do not look my age at all, my skin is that clear and wrinkle-free; and (b) it seems unfathomable that I do not have a stitch of makeup on - my skin is even toned now and glows.

I used to use that Swiss Formula Apricot Scrub as well. I only use it twice a week now.

That is all the advice I can offer - good luck!

4. Thanks - I've bookmarked that
I'll look it over thoroughly later. I don't spend a lot on myself so I don't mind paying extra in certain areas. I buy good hair products and good body lotions and I'm prepared to spend some dough on my face. :hi:

24. I've used those products too, and with good results.
The only reason I don't now is because of the cost. I would advise you to get a facial (if you can) with someone who knows the product line, and who can help you select a serum strength you can use without discomfort. The Phyto Corrective gel is practically miraculous.

2. I use Equate facial cleanser which is easier
Edited on Tue May-08-07 11:46 AM by raccoon
on my skin, especially in the winter. It costs about 2.17 and is from Wally World(only thing I buyu there, honest). Dollar General sells something similar.

It doesn't dry my checks, don't know how much it helps with the oil. As well as anything else does that I've tried.

7. I use Proactive and Mary Kay dermabrasion kit
I'm pretty happy with both of those. I use Proactiv most days and the microdermabrasion kit about 2x week. I am prone to acne breakouts and the Proactv takes care of that. They do have a drying cream that I sometimes use on my Tzone.

The microdermabrasion is wonderful. I think you have to exfoliate more as you get older.

Oh, I use MK because my niece sells it and I can get it at cost. so.. But I've looked at the Neutrogena kit in stores and i might try that if I can't get MK.

I'm looking for something that will correct my skin tone though. I've got a brown blotch (what they used to call "liver spots") on my left jaw. It's not really noticable to anyone but me, but I'd like to get rid of it.

8. My sister has insanely sensitive skin too, and she uses Avalon Organics Lavender Cleanser.
It's fragrance free and designed for people with sensitive skin, and she swears by it. It's about $12 for 8 oz. and can be found at Whole Foods, Earth Fare, and most independent natural foods markets. :)

16. I have the same type of skin.
This is what I use:
http://www.kiehls.com/_us/_en/catalog/product.aspx?catcode=AXE_Face&TopCat=F1_Cleansers&prdcode=331

I have used it for a long time now and it gets the job done as far as oiliness/dryness. Great company to do business with as well.

20. Kiehls
Does horrible things to my skin. I couldn't beleive that something that felt so good made skin break out in a rash after 3 uses.

19. Clinique
The entire product line is 100% fragrance free and tested by dermatologists. It's great for people with sensitive skin. I don't really have sensitive skin, I just like it because I don't care for scented products. I also use Biotherm from time to time which is excellent, but it's a bit pricey.

23. I've been using Clinique Exfoliating Scrub for 30 years
and no one can believe that I am almost 47. :D

My routine for 30 years has been: exfoliating scrub in AM, then moisturize. Believe it or not, I never remove my makeup at night because if I do it messes up the Ph balance of my skin and I will break out. I never get zits, drink tons of water, and only use Clinique makeup. Unfortunately my moisturizer (Jasons Skin-A-Mins, Vitamin E) was discontinued earlier this year so I bought 20 containers of it, should last me through next year, then?

Don't use the Apricot Scrub, the kernels are jagged and could harm your sensitive skin. Clinique's little scrubbies are tiny round balls.

Probably more than you want to know about skin care!
