how do I get my display settings back , computer issue

MY computer is old with windows 98 SE . It began acting up and today i got a screen asking for BIOS and other stuff i don't understand .

I thought the hard drive was dying , it was clicking and all sites i tried to type in the post was a stream of x's that went on by themselves ,

I got a new battery that snaps on the motherboard which is a normal tower .

I get things wirking again but the settings for the pixel was at 600x 800 nows it's larger and when i try to change it back on display settings the color goes to 256 when i put it back from 640 x480 to 600 x 800 the colors go to 256 ,when i change the colors back to 16 it goes by itself to 256 .

Did I lose a driver , they all seem to be there ?

1. I'm not sure what you did, but could it be that you started in some kind of secure modus?

It's been a while since I used 98 SE.

2. no it's not in safe mode , I just can't get the pixel size right , it jumps

right back to the largest size when it was 600 x 800 and I restart NOT CHANGED .
