Rant - Why do the both shrinkwrap and put those damned stickers on new CDs
My daughter got a late Consumerism Holiday gift in the mail and it was a CD. I should not have to get out the Sawzall to open a damned CD.

25. Apparently, it's not working...
The local Wally World changed ALL 8 of their self checkouts to 10 items or less (*last straw, I no longer darken the door) because people were stealing.

They were doing innovative things like filling shoe boxes with CDs and scannning them to pay the price os a $20.00 pair of shoes. (The weight was detected on the bagging thing.)

Anyway, I hear kids at school talk about their shop lifting adventures all the time. :eyes:

6. The answer is obvious
They need you to WORK at it before you use it to separate out your seeds from your bud.

Oh, wait, that was my vinyl Double Album Skynyrd live LP...

Never mind.

11. I lose more fingernails that way..
And I'd like to consign whoever came up with those "clamshell" plastic packages to the lowest level of Hades. It took me half an hour, a pair of utility scissors, a box cutter, three fingernails and a box of bandaids to get at my Zen nano.

Consumer reports offers the Oyster Awards each year. I'd like to nominate mine.

13. I'm pretty good at opening CDs
I run my fingernail along the hinge to cut the shrinkwrap then I bypass the sticker seal by opening up the hinged side to separate the sides of the cover.

Remove the sticker and put the hinges back together.

I can open a CD is a matter of seconds.

15. What if they do the two stickers, one on top, one on bottom?
Or is that just DVDs I'm thinking of?

I'm a bad consumer. I don't buy enough crap. :P

One on top, one on the bottom and one sealing where you are supposed to be able to open it.

17. Yeah, that's pretty common.
For those I just peel the suckers off. I do have the advantage of having ridiculously strong and sharp nails though, as well as strong agile fingers from years of playing various instruments. (ironicaly those same strong sharp nails usually get in the WAY of playing those instruments... :P )

21. The RIAA has all music on lockdown
The best way to prevent someone from illegally copying music is to prevent them from getting to it in the first place.

23. That's also why some CDs are in the case so tight that you're afraid you might break it just getting
it out.

Because they WANT you to break it getting it out. Once they have your money they don't give a shit if you can actually use the product they sold or not.

22. They have to do something with the indestructible plastic.
All of the cheap breakable plastic gets used in toys, household appliances, and auto parts to make sure they have to be replaced regularly. There really is no market for indestructible plastic, so it makes for really cheap packaging.
