I caught the Seahawks win with my Dad today. He's doing a little better now. |
|
The surgeon said it turns out they actually DID remove the entire cancerous mass from his pancreas. Before, they were thinking they hadn't got it all. He'll still need radiation and chemo, though. I went to visit him today, his first day out of the ICU. Although his medical outlook is improving, he's pretty cranky and frustrated. He hasn't been outside or had a meal since the middle of December (he's getting nutrition by IV) and he's got nothing to break up his days except TV and visitors, who tire him out.
Anyway, we caught the Hawks-'Skins game together. Pretty boring until the 4th Quarter. The Hawks were holding the Skins to a shut out until then, when the Skins scored two in a row, putting the Hawks down by one. Leave it to Seattle to blow a big lead like that. :eyes: The Hawks managed to score twice more by the end of the game, leaving it at 28-14. But damn the Hawks for turning a walk-away into a nail-biter. Anyway, my Dad was happy to see us win, and seemed to like having me there with him. He was grumpy and snappish most of the time, but I can't say I blame him. The biggest part of his day right now is having flat warm Coke to counteract the nausea brought on by the cancer... :(

My Dad was the same way when he had a heart attack...drove the nurses nuts.
I hope he continues to get better, Aristus!

Oh, I feel for your dad!
Convalescing is such a tedious business!
I hope he can get out of there soon...
And that's excellent news that they did get it all...
I'm holding the good thought!

I hate seeing my father so frail and helpless. He's always been this giant in my life. Bullet-proof, almost. I'm looking forward to seeing him kick cancer's ass. He's kicked ass all his life, I can't imagine him giving up now.

For both your dad and the game. I was rooting for the Seahawks--can't stand the Redskins.
Happy to hear your dad's surgery went well.

Cranky and frustrated are good things.... It will give him the kick to get better so he doesn't have to stay in bed the whole time!!!
It also sounds like a nice afternoon.... one you both can remember
I will keep sending good vibes and prayers....
