Man Sees 666 On His Hand - Cuts His Hand Off And Microwaves It To Save Himself
<snip>

HAYDEN, Idaho — A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" amputated one of his hands, put it in a microwave and summoned authorities, Kootenai County sheriff's deputies say.

The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when deputies arrived at his home in this north Idaho town Saturday afternoon, and neither he nor the severed hand bore any noticeable tattoo or other mark, sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger.

The man, whose name was withheld, was in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene, where he and the hand were taken by ambulance. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Johnson would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand, citing patient confidentiality restrictions.

"He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death," Wolfinger said. " That kind of mental illness is just sad."

The New Testament Book of Revelation contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying, according to the New International Version of the Bible, "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury."

1. Dammit- why can't these assholes KILL themselves, instead of just mutilating themselves?
Make the world a better place, that would.

12. Well, good.
We'll spend a few rounds making fun of a young man who is probably mentally ill, then we'll spend another few rounds doing some Idaho-bashing.

Good times, good times.

23. Me? An Idaho basher?
I grew up mostly in Idaho. All over Idaho--New Plymouth, Mountain Home, Sun Valley, Idaho Falls, Hope and St. Maries. Most of my family still lives there--my parents in Hayden, one sister in Post Falls, one in Lewiston and my brother in Coeur d'Alene.

I love Idaho, but when it came time to leave the Army I realized that with what I do, I'd have a hell of a time finding a really good job in Idaho.

I did fuck up on that one, though: I should have moved to Spokane, where I COULD have found a good job and I still would have been close to Idaho.

30. Potatoes aren't commercially farmed in that part of the state
South Idaho is the home of potato farming, sugar beet farming, various orchards and glowing people, at least around Arco where the Navy's nuclear reactor school is. They also have the "Craters of the Moon National Monument," where our Apollo astronauts trained. They grow the root crops in South Idaho because it's fairly flat terrain down there, and roots are flood-irrigated.

North Idaho, where Hayden is, has softwood logging, lead and silver mining in the Silver Valley, and wheat farming on the Palouse. Someone I know who moved from Wallace to Fayetteville told me there's a Wal-Mart on the site where the Bunker Hill Smelter once stood. In that store, considering what was once there and how contaminated it was, everything has lead in it whether it was from China or not.

They also grow, around Sanders, what I have been told is some fairly decent weed, but I've never partaken so have no first-hand knowledge. I remember one year we used a picture of Sanders Road as the opening shot in the high school yearbook...yes, the biggest pothead in school was the yearbook editor.
