Doctor has good news: It's not the flu. Bad news:
"If it was I could do something pretty dramatic for you."
And no strep or pneumonia.
woopee

It's a virus.
And it's fucking miserable.

She (my doc) calls it "The New Year Epidemic".
"Half of my patients over about 55 have it. Happens almost every year. You go visit the grandkids for Christmas. This has a 10 to 14 day incubation period. You get home from the holidays and a few days later...boom."

No treatment for a virus, but we can treat the symptoms.
Coriciden and Flonase.

<GROSS ALERT>

Since I started her regimen this morning it has broken up the phlegm into something I can cough up without danger of an aneurysm.
Now I'm damn near drowning in it.
But it does come up.
Gonna be an interesting night.

I just wanna get well and go run and play with the other little boys and girls.

2. That must be what I have -- 101+ fever for three days straight.
One nasty mother...

The incubation period makes sense too.

6. I was on it. This virus beat it.
She said stop all your other OTC drugs and do the Coriciden and Flonase.
"Call me Monday if you're not better."
I'm already better.
Hope I'm a LOT better by Monday.

4. My husband was at the doc yesterday for the same thing
and he went right over to Walgreens and got their brand of Mucinex; that and Advil cold and sinus. It worked wonders. Get well soon.

7. Ugh
a few years back, I had one like that. I was fucking miserable - worst sore throat I've ever had in my life. The doc just looked at me sadly and said there was nothing to do but wait it out - 14 days.

It was the coxsackie virus.

15. Coriciden HBP (expectorant & cough suppressant) OTC
The HBP is safe for those with High Blood Pressure (duh).
And yeah, the Flonase is prescription.

11. I think I have that.

It was like the Monster Cold from Hell. Hardly got out of bed the entire week of Christmas; I still worry that I'm going to cough up an entire lung.

Nasty shit. It's going around work, seems like everybody's got it. That Zicam cough spray stuff seems to help a little.

14. Get well soon, my friend
Misery loves company: I've been sitting in Atlanta
since Monday with a engine electronics "malfunction".

Finally, after much head-scratching and cluster-fucking,
they finally decided to REPLACE THE GODDAMMED ECU!
Fucking DUH?! Cost: $950. Total cost, including motel,
my breakdown pay, and 4 days of lost productivity: at
least 2 Grand. Private sector efficiency?

:banghead:

16. Update on course of treatment: Good!
I'm not well yet, but markedly better.
The Coricidin definitely broke up and thinned the sinus/chest congestion.

I'd been on Mucinex for a few days prior and it sure wasn't as effective as the Coricidin.

The Flonase seemed to help the sinuses drain considerably.
Right now, I'm pretty dry.
