I just had a very strange experience...
I was feeling a bit down about something in my personal life...

And then I felt some words swirling around inside me, the way they do when a poem is forming...

So I wrote them down...

And presto chango!

I feel better...

Who knew?

Has this ever happened to you?

1. no. I don't write poetry.
:)

I'm glad you're feeling better, or your mood is improved.

Changing focus can be a good mood elevator, and that's what you did in shifting from your thoughts to the task of putting thoughts on paper.

3. My dear some guy!
I didn't mean necessarily through poetry!

My mood is improved, and that is a good thing...

Changing focus, huh?

OK, that helps too...

Thank you...

2. I very rarely write when depressed...
in fact, I very rarely write at all.
I can't even describe the mood i'm feeling when I write.
I just know I have to.
And I do.
I wish I knew how to harness that energy more often.

5. My dear Elrond Hubbard...
It is a very good thing to be able to express yourself in whatever manner you choose...

Writing comes fairly naturally to me...

I hope you'll be able to harness that energy more often too, sweetie...

It is a big relief to feel better...

4. Yes, actually.
That's kinda what happened when I wrote http://www.stickmanltd.com/practicesessions/road.mp3">this song. 'Twas quite strange. It's not really my usual style. It's not even in my vocal range, it's a bit high for me. It just kinda... popped out one day.

6. My dear DarkTirade...
Oh, I really want to hear your song...

But when I clicked on the link, the page opened, but no song...

Help!

Sometimes things are inside us that we have no idea about...

It's a voyage of self-discovery, isn't it?

8. It's an mp3 file, if your browser doesn't want to play it
you could try right-clicking and saving it.

Maybe if I just start it'll come more easily with time.

9. My dear GoddessOfGuinness
I've been told the same thing...

But if I sit down to write when I'm not feeling inspired, what comes out is, frankly, crap...

So I need inspiration...

Perhaps you don't...

Try it and see!

It's good to start with something you know well...

And have some passion for!

11. I definitely need inspiration...
but maybe if I allow myself to churn out random thoughts and meandering words, it'll get my engine going just enough for me to recalibrate the spark plugs...You know what I mean?

12. Yes, that does work!
I do that as well...

I almost let go of the conscious process...

As though someone were speaking through me...

It does take practice, but when you can get it to work...

It's fabulous!

13. Well I just came across a poem my mother wrote to my youngest son about his Aunt whom I had
told him lived on the moon. I know it is not true but we had a great laugh about where his Aunt lived.

What if the sky was yellow
and grass bright blue
and tree leaves purple and
covered with dew?

What if cattle galloped and
horses just grazed
Do you think everyone
Would be amazed?

Now if one hundred was empty
and one was a crowd
and the sound of silence
was really loud

If kittens whistled
and birds just mewed
I'd think it was funny
Wouldn't you

Suppose some bright and starry night
You glance at the moon and see a sight
Kathy's stirring her tea with a silver spoon

Getting ready for bed right up on the moon.

Would you believe your eyes or not
And would you think of it quite a lot?

Or would you say quite blase
that's where whe goes at the end of the day!

love grandma

I remember my mom jotting this down one night as my now 16 year old son went to bed. He always wondered where his Aunt a teacher went at night.

20. Sometimes that happens to me in dreams
When I'm feeling really down about something going on in my life, I'll get a message in a dream that puts a new perspective on it. My subconscious? A post-it note from the Universe? A Higher Power? Incipient schizophrenia?

Once the message was to stop worrying about it for a while, and start making a quilt instead. That turned out to be just what I needed to do at the time.

I wish I were musically or poetically inclined, though.

23. My dear FloridaJudy!
I wish my dreams would do that!

Oh, nooooooooo...

That would be too damn useful!

I'll tell you...being poetically inclined is not always fun...

Not when it's your problems that are driving you to it, anyhow...

Sometimes I do write joyful poetry...

That's a lot of fun!

But I've never had my feelings improve by doing so...

Maybe I was ready for this...

26. Daily journaling...
it's good for the soul...forces one to attempt to clarify feelings and thoughts...

Your voice is in "poetry" Peggy; my youngest daughter's is in music, and she is proficient in singing, composition and piano.

I saw this work with her not too long ago...she had a breakup with a boy friend over the phone which was quite emotional. She raced to the baby-grand and let loose with about 15 minutes of beautiful classical sound, pouring her emotions into that.

When she got up she felt much better.

People express themselves in many different languages...

I'm glad your poetry class and experience are proving so positive!

:) :hi:
