New chicks are hatching out in the coop! Heard the peeping of a couple and the tap-tap-tap of
of some still working their way out of the shells! Saw one little yellow puffball very briefly before momma hen tucked it back underneath her! I will try to move the momma hens and babies into the greenhouse once the hatching stops.... The temps in there are always above freezing. Probably be much easier on the peeps than staying in the unheated coop.....

This is a snap of the two mommas with the last batch of peeps in August. I'll try to get photos of these babies tomorrow....

1. Congrats. As former egg producers, I envy the fun you will have with them.

2. How precious! Thanks for sharing.
I work at two elementary schools with incubators to hatch eggs. I just love the little chicks. One year, they hatched quail eggs. They were beautiful. The kids get so excited about the chicks, give them names, take turns caring for them. It's really fun.

Ahhhh.... a true sign of spring! :D

7. How do you get your chickens to set on a nest?
Mine will sit on a nest a few days and then wander off or else all the other hens will sneak into lay eggs on the nest and the poor hen ends up trying to set 35 eggs.
