I don't have birder ennui, but I have pre-birder-ennui. |
|
I still need to go to Alaska, which will be expen$$$$$ive.
Texas could get me about 16 birds, but 6 of those birds only occur in the spring, and 3 of them only occur in the winter.
I need about 12 birds for Maine, but 5 of those only occur in the dead of winter, and winter in Maine is COLD. The rest of them are only around in the spring.
I need 5 grouse, 2 finches, and an owl for Colorado. Grouse are notoriously hard. Three of these grouse, you basically only ever see at their leks. This will probably involve a guided tour, which will be irritating and expen$$$ive.
I've been to Arizona four times, and I still need a few birds there. One bird is only found DEEP inside the canyon where I wrecked the rental car on my last trip there.
I toasted Florida. I only have a couple birds left there.
There's sort of a band from Michigan to North Dakota that still has some birds, but that will be one of the last stops for the XemaSab express. It sounds like a lot of time driving, and a little time birding.
So what do I do? I am pre-emptively underwhelmed at the quality of most of my future birding trips. :(

2. My friend said I had enough room and I could make it between the rock and the tree. |
|
He was wrong.
$700 later, I have learned to ALWAYS get the optional insurance when you get a rental vehicle.

Maybe you should rent a small truck, then go into the canyon via dirt bike.

When I see a Cardinal in my back yard, I get all excited! You're really a serious birder, aren't you? I can imagine all the birds you've seen. What was your "rarest" sighting?
