Anyone know the answer here? |
|
Does it ever stop "getting to" you if you are separated from your child, and you have to leave him or her... and know that you will see them again, but not every day like you did?
Just wondering if anyone knows?
I don't. It hasn't seemed any easier.

My career has frequently involved periods of travel. I've had to be away from my son for days even a couple of weeks at times. I started to get somewhat used to that, particularly as he got older, I still missed him and when it was a week or more I still felt that particular kind of loneliness that comes from missing a child occasionally but phone calls usually got me through alright.
But now my wife and I are separated and have just recently started the custody rotation and the moment he left for school on the morning of the day that his mother would pick him up in the afternoon for 'her week' I felt that loneliness I mentioned above in full force and I hasn't gone away yet.

12. I know. And it does get easier. Eventually. |
|
I left the apartment my son lived in when he was fourteen. It was probably around the time he was sixteen that the weight of sadness in my chest began to lift. Now that he's 18, I tell myself, well, if he was away at College, I wouldn't see him more than a few days every couple of months. I'll be seeing him Thursday to watch Lost, and I'm really looking forward to it.
I know people pooh pooh the notion that it's quality and not quantity, but when you don't have quantity - you want to make the best time together that you can. And that helps.

I would imagine not, but my kiddo's 3, so I can't even fathom at this point.
It's tough, I'll bet.
You could always make a trip across the line to Pocola and make some friends to take your mind off it (inside Arkansan joke)
That freeze line hit like a ton of bricks today didn't it?
