I have a dream!!
But no money :(

What I want to do is rescue this:

and when I get finished with it, have it wind up looking pretty much like this:

Why, you ask, would I want to engage in such "madness" ?

Well, some of you might remember me posting about my father's passing back in August of last year. One of the earliest vivid memories I have from my childhood is riding in a truck just like this with him, back when he was an owner-operator. It's a 1953 Kenworth model D "bullnose" and I have always thought it was the coolest truck ever built. If I could get my hands on one, I would spend every spare minute I could scrape up bringing her back to glory, and installing a biodiesel kit to run it on veggie power of course.

I just don't know how to raise the funds, so I need fund-raising ideas. Nothing is too whacky, humiliating or out of bounds for this endeavor. I feel drawn to this thing like Richard Dreyfus to Devil's Tower in "Close Encounters"

on second thought, maybe I just need some meds to make it go away

1. Do you just want it to look good, or do you want it to RUN like new too?
Sounds like a fun project. Quick question -- you CAN drive one of those things, can't you?

2. look good and run good
I don't want to use it for commercial use, just to pull my 5th wheel travel trailer with for some family trips. I figure if I can collect used cooking oil etc from restaraunts etc. for biodiesel, each time I've gathered enough for a trip it will be time to take a few days off and take a trip somewhere, cheap way to fuel it for sure.

And yes, I can drive it, I used to drive heavy trucks back in the '80s for a while. I'd have to get up to speed on driving a twin-stick transmission setup though.

7. I don't know yet
how much I could pick up a salvage truck for, I know I wouldn't give a ton of money for it even if it is a classic '53 model truck, salvage is salvage.I probably wouldn't give over $1500 for a junkyard queen.

I know the first one is in a salvage in Kansas, I have actually seen it form the highway driving by. I am going to try and contact the person who posted the second one and see if I can track it down and if it's for sale.

If I can't find the KW I want, my second choice is a B Model Mack. There are a bunch of those floating around, and I can remember riding with Dad in one of those too.

thanks for the reply :hi:
