Any ship cruise veterans out there - a question.... |

We have booked passage to a cruise around Hawaii for July 2009, and we need to know if "Travel Protection" is really required?

NCL pulls second ship from Hawaii Barely a week after pulling its Pride of Hawaii cruise ship out of inter-island operations, NCL Corp. said on Monday the Pride of Aloha will be reflagged and deployed to Asia on May 11. That leaves one NCL cruise ship remaining in Hawaii, the Pride of America. Pride of Aloha will begin service this summer for Star Cruises. * * * http://pacific.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2008/02/11/daily9.html?q=ncl%20pulls%20second%20ship%20from%20hawaiiBe guided accordingly

5. If you mean trip cancellation insurance, yes! |
|
Especially if you paid a lot of money.

7. When I booked last summer's trip to England, I bought it for the first time |
|
because I didn't know whether my passport would arrive.
It was $52 for $1500 in prebooked airfare and hotels. I didn't need it, because fortunately, the airline rebooked me for free when my passport came a day late, but there was the possibility that I could have had to cancel the whole trip, and I could afford to eat $50, but not $1500.
WE INTERRUPT THIS POST FOR A HINT FOR ALL AIR TRAVELERS:
If you are unable to take a prebooked flight for any reason (illness or injury, getting stuck in traffic, whatever), be sure to notify the airline immediately. If you do not report to them by midnight on the day of your scheduled flight, you will be counted as a "no show," and your ticket will be CANCELED.
However, if you report to them, your ticket will remain valid for a year from the date of purchase.

Also, I spoke to a old college buddy of mine, who's part of the cruise team. He assures me that the cruise will go on, boat may be different (Pride of America or Pride of Aloha, NCL is trying to figure out which one) and the cruise date may also be changed....

most travel industry folks that trip insurance is a good thing to get for cruises, precisely because you have to sign up so far in advance. A lot can happen between the time you make your reservations and time to set sail.
I've never cruised but just what I've learned from watching Travel Channel. :silly:
