A major indication that it's time to consider getting a new job
You find yourself avoiding fun activities on your day off because these would make the day off seem shorter, hastening your return to work.

Is that a sick cycle, or what?

1. Oh yeah, I know it well. That sick cycle started for me about 5 years ago
and I'm still at my shitty job.

7. Lately it's really flared up for me.
To be honest, I'm exaggerating the behavior described in the OP, though I have worked jobs at which the OP was true as written.

3. Or spending Sunday night pondering
if anyone would buy your calling in sick on a Monday, regardless of how many people were actually out sick the week before. :(

4. My very favorite time of all is Friday just after I leave work...
because I know it's the furthest away I can be from having to go back in there.

I can't wait to leave this fucking job. September!!!

5. Or thinking, if I got in a car accident, I wouldn't have to go to work.

I've been in a job I hated that much.

9. I worked one of those!
I pondered throwing myself down a flight of stairs, reasoning that I could make it seem as though I'd been more seriously injured than I really was....

8. It's lovely that a job can have such an impact on us
Speaks volumes of the state of the American worker and workplace.

10. Add in a bullying boss and you've got a recipe for a nervous breakdown.

AKA work trauma.

12. I like to say I have one manager and two micromanagers.
For some reason they decided to reorganize my department, promote someone with no discernible managerial skills (but a HUGE ego), smash it together with another department, keep that department's manager on board, and promote my old manager to work in tandem with the other two. Technically, my old manager is the top dog, but she hates confrontation so she avoids keeping the other two in line. The other two are micromanagers in the extreme, changing every single detail of every project about 1000x before it's done. And the only reason it ever gets declared "done" is because we've hit the absolute latest deadline and there's no more time for changes. If they had unlimited time on a project the changes would go on into infinity. It's absolutely maddening.

14. Here's another sign...
His boss is giving Orrex his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were laid off."

"OH NO!" Orrex exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His boss sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as Orrex sits, head in hands.

Finally, Orrex looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

15. The Sunday night depression about the next day
and then I would start using my sick time as mental health days, as I rarely became ill and used those days otherwise.

Old job, long gone.

20. Or your micro-managing boss posts notes in bright red marker that you'll see
when you walk in the door. Then proceeds to call you from her home to dog you about whatever she can get her hands on. I think I'll start writing my book. It won't be pretty at all.
