Alright, so who's seen "Breaker Morant?" |
|
It was on TMC just a few minutes ago (just got done), and one of the lines got to me. "This is a New War, for a new century." How do we reconcile the fact that those going on court martial for, basically, warm crimes are not those who issued the actual orders?
I watched it with my dad when I was 14 or 15, and it was sad, but watching it 7 years later, it's heartbreaking. Anyone else seen it?

1. I saw it when it came out.... |
|
Barely remember the details of the movie...
But at the time, it was sold as a commentary on Colonialism in general, South Africa in particular, and the people who followed the orders getting punished instead of the people who gave the orders...
To me, it brought back memories of Lt. Calley from Vietnam...

2. I'm much, much too young for that. |

Like I said in the OP, the political aspect is only hitting me now.

6. Saw it a long time ago. |

Sadly, this is the kind of thing that happens in wartime. That is exactly why you avoid war if at all possible, and you sure as hell don't do it just to force your will on others. It also just goes to show that some things, like the nature of war, do not change.

I liked that way that Woodward and Brian Brown took each others' hands as they were marching to their execution, too.
