Poll question: Went to a fight last Thursday..and during the fight, a funeral broke out |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 02:52 AM by SoCalDem
Sort of..
The husband of a friend died.. Apparently it was sudden (heart attack..he was 67)..apparently they alos never talked about what each wanted. The friend had a regular funeral, and during the funeral his brother came up to the widow and called her a heartless bitch..
To say we were stunned, was an understatement..
Acording to the brother, "he" never wanted an open casket..or even a funeral.. he said his brother told HIM, he wanted to be cremated and his ashes scattered at the beach where they surfed as kids..
The sister in law was mortified, and got him out of there in a hurry..but I can truthfully say, I have NEVER been to a funeral like THAT one before..
The dead man's sons were ready to punch their uncle OUT..and to say it was a memorable funeral, would be an understatement..
which brings me to my poll:
and a suggestion:..WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN AFTER YOU ARE GONE..
give a copy to everyone, while you are still alive, so no one gets upset at your loved ones you leave behind..

That is soooo important!
My husband and I both want to be cremated...ashes at sea...
I'd like my organs to be harvested if that can be done...if I die in a hospital, where I could be kept on life support till the organs could be taken...
A memorial service would be nice too...
We've been to several now, for family members who have gone, and the time spent that way is very healing...
Thank you for the great reminder of this vital topic...

2. My preference would be to be dropped at sea without a coffin, or at |
|
least in something that biodegrades quickly. Or, being cryogenically frozen for future revival. However, what I really hope is that I go out in such a thorough blaze of glory that the whole question of remains becomes moot...

3. I want to be cremated and have my ashes mixed in with a hockey puck. |

And I'm actually serious. :)

4. My son and friends all know what I want |
|
and what music to play as my ashes are scattered in the Sierras.
But, you're right...if it's important to you, let those close to you all know before you go.

5. Don't much care what they do with my body |
|
I won't be using it anymore, though I'd like it to be disposed of in an ecologically friendly manner. Green burial would work - so would sky burial, or being dissected by med students. Any useful organs would be up for grabs first, natch.
But I want a huge party for my send-off. A Jazz funeral would do it, or a happy naked Pagan dance in some green field. Lots of food, loud music and potables. And if anyone tries to read that turgid "Footprints" poem, I swear I'll come back and haunt them!
Oh, and I want it noted in my obituary that I collected pornographic Tarot cards.

6. Hefty bag and a dumpster for all I care. I won't be there. |
|
I should get something in writing about who gets to make the decisions, or my Dad and Sister get it in their heads that they're in charge, something that never works out well.
Like I said, I don't give a damn, but I'd hate to have people I care about fighting on my account.
