CAMDEN (May 9): While parents readied children for school bus pickups around Chestnut and Limerock streets Friday, a moose also made an appearance in the neighborhood as it sought escape from thick swarms of morning black flies. http://knox.villagesoup.com/Community/story.cfm?storyID=115755more pics at link.

The black flies are out here too already. It was like they came out overnight earlier this week. One day it was fine, the next we were getting eaten up. I've been up here three years and still haven't seen a moose (except on a trailer during hunting season). My husband has seen them up near Rumford.

and every time we went out there, there was one in the road. Years ago, we lived in Rockport, and on my way home one night there was a bull in the middle of the road. At the time I had a little VW Jetta, the bugger was so big, I could have driven right under him! Magnificent beasts, so gentile, but can turn on you on a whim. I just sat there until he was out of the way.

5. I think we are too close to the ocean |

(4 miles away from Pompham beach) although my landlord said that one of the teachers ran into a moose with her car(!?) right here on the main rd. Maybe they are just hiding from me.
My husband saw 5 or 6 of them when he was up at the Maine Forest Rally. He said they were huge. When we first moved here we lived in Wiscasset and he made me drive up to Jackman because someone told him that we were guaranteed to see one, but we didn't. So, unless I go to the Wildlife zoo place in Grey I feel like I am never going to see one!
