Once a year, I hit a swank downtown club to remind myself why I only go once a year.

$15 for cover, $6 for the manditory coat check AFTER being frisked and having a metal detector scanned over me (so they know I'm not carrying anything). Then I get inside and pay $7 for a bottle of domestic beer. All so I could sit down listening to really crappy top 40 "Hip hop" while a bunch of whored-up deltas and pretty boys go around acting like its hormone day at the mink ranch and talk about Mariah Carey getting married. I lasted the one beer and left. So, I basically paid $30 for a bottle of kokanee. The only saving grace is the music is so loud you don't actually have to hear how stupid the person you're talking to is. I don't mind paying bucks to see something I'm not going to see anywhere else, or a cool scene. But just the run of the mill tunes and boring people - just ain't worth it.

I left, went back to my regular pub where I paid $4 for an import and had some good conversations about the US election and what a douchebag Harper is.

I wonder what's in store next year.

Last time I went to a club, there was this guy in the bathroom who throws a towel over your shoulder, then holds out his hand for a buck. I have a very small bladder, and by the time the evening was over I was putting his kids through college.

I avoid places like that like the plague. Even the cheapo clubs, which at least cost less, make me want to run away.
