It's just that I packed my outfit without trying it on. When I put the skirt on, I thought, "Yipes! It's a lot shorter than I remember!" The shoes were total date shoes too, very uncomfortable. And the attendees were mostly Northeastern and DC-area WASPs, so dowdy was the reigning fashion paradigm. I felt I stood out like a sore thumb. I let it drop that I was from LA, figuring they'd take it as an explanation.
