Would you pay for your own piss test? |
|
A local construction company has the weirdest-sounding Drug Free policy I ever heard of: You're required to take a pre-employment urinalysis, as you'd expect, if you're extended a conditional offer of employment...but you have to pay for it out of your pocket. If you pass, they refund the $47 it costs.
I'd never do it (besides, I know the guy who runs the place; he is to the right of Rush Limbaugh) but would you?

Basically you have to pay them to get hired, and if you're eligible to get hired they'll refund the money.

3. No, but if they're losing a lot of prospects to failed tests, I can see why they would. |
|
Still, a lot of job seekers might not have $50 they can spare until their results come back, so I'd be worried about losing good prospects.

This could violate equal opportunity laws (discriminate against those with less money), but I'm no lawyer.

6. I think I would consider it |
|
I would have to be guaranteed the job, conditionally, based on the results of the test. I would want it in writing.
Second, I would pass because I don't do any drugs.
third, they will refund it when I pass.

I have no qualms filling a cup with my urine to pass a drug test, but since they want the test, it seems fair they should pay for the Dixie brand cup.
Nice to see them refund the money, that almost justifies the concept, but no.

8. Let me add a couple other items... |
|
It's a construction company that's fairly well-regarded here, so standards are very high. You're required to own about $800 worth of tools to work there, and you must have "reliable transportation." Since you're sometimes required to "transport" building materials, the "transportation" basically means "you must own a full-size pickup." When you get hired, they stick their company's logo on the door of your own truck--and it's not a magnetic sign. And they pay $10 per hour--which, in the context of Fayettenam (the home of the $8/hour carpenter) isn't that bad.
Now! $800 worth of tools and $5000 worth of truck to make $10 per hour. Would you pay for your own piss test now?

10. Can I choose the delivery method? |
|
If so, I would pay and let them keep the fee.
Heck, I'd even pay half the cleaning tab.
