Any costume/sewing experts in the house?
I'm shopping for fabrics to be used in my costume for the 2009 Mardi Gras ball. This year's theme is Oscar-Winning movies, and my merry band was bestowed The Wizard of Oz- I'm representing the Emerald City guard.

So help me, I can't find appropriately-green fur (for the hat and gloves) ANYWHERE!!! I've ordered swatches from a few online houses, and the color is completely off from the picture. The seamstress told me that it would be somewhat difficult to find. I just want a basic green, or perhaps a darker emerald green.

Does anyone have a secret source that might be able to help? I've been through most of the major ones online (so a Google search hit probably won't help me).

Thanks!

1. Have you thought about looking at the eyelash/fur yarn
and having someone knit or crochet the pieces you need? Check AC Moore or Michaels or a yarn shop. If you find a color you like, take note of the brand, color, etc and then you can see if it can be ordered cheaper online. They knit up like fur fabric and look very good.

4. Interesting.....
It's just a big hat and long gloves- I suppose it COULD be knitted.... I'll look into that!

Thanks! :hi:

2. Would you be able to dye it?
You might want to investigate whether any easily available faux fur could take a dye. Then, you could order the amount you'd need in white and dye it to the color you want.

3. That's something to consider.....
If I don't find something soon, I'll call this Plan B...

Thanks! :hi:
