1. I like the second set. Sexy is when you don't try too hard.
BTW: Angelina's left handed! :woohoo:  :patriot:

3. Beat me to it
Trying to be sexy is often a self-cancelling action.

I'm not really prepared to define "sexy," but I find the second set more appealing because those photos show that both subjects care about something that I also care about. That's extremely attractive.

4. Compassion, selflessness, and activism are very sexy qualities
that are hardly ever celebrated by the MSM (how often do we see photos like the second set in the major magazines)? So it's no surprise that our society has slid into republican rule for so long. Someone recently posted a thread asking if brains and beauty can coexist, and it seems obvious to me that they can....but what is truly attractive and beautiful may be defined differently by different people. And Intelligence? What good is it if it isn't applied in a way that makes the world just a little bit better?

7. For pure animal attraction: Set A.
For deeper, more meaningful attraction: Set B.

It just depends on what you're looking for...

11. Pure animal attraction can lead to some very tough times, or so I've learned
from recent experience.

I was involved for a time with a guy that a friend refers to as "Viggo's hotter evil twin". The guy receives Mortensen comparison daily, is often asked if he's a model, and is constantly being hit on by both women and gay men of almost every age. We're in the same line of work, and for some unknown reason he is very attracted to me. He refused to talk politics but once mentioned after the umpteenth Viggo comparison "Well, if I have to be likened to someone all the time, and least people are comparing me with a guy that has a good head on his shoulders." so obviously I thought that he leaned left. Time proved that this wasn't so. He has a bit of a split personality, and the other half of him is one nasty, abusive, right wing libertarian. Now I feel kind of like Seinfeld did in that episode where his brain and his penis are at war with one another over the hot woman that he's dating, lol! It's awful to be so attracted to and so repulsed by the same person at the same time. Next time I won't take "I'm apolitical" as an answer!

16. What makes them look like giant douchbags to you?
Is it the fact that both are physically attractive, or is there something about working to help refugees/ supporting Kucinich and not the war that repels you?

19. it's the posturing
It's all so posed. Maybe these people actually have their hearts in the right place, but they don't seem to be objecting to these things being used for PR, as evidenced by this post about it on this website (that is, the PR is working - the photos were posed for, taken, distributed, and you've commented about them).

20. Er, I stumbled on the second set of photos on obscure blogs
Edited on Thu May-22-08 01:11 AM by Lorien
The mainstream media has NO interest in a celebrity's liberal activism unless it results in an embarrassing or controversial comment. Angelina Jolie has testified on capital hill on behalf of refugees because she spent time in several refugee camps working for the UN, Viggo Mortensen called a press conference for Kucinich (which almost no one attended) because he was dismayed that the media was ignoring Kucinich and his message.http://technorati.com/videos/youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DCvMl_Kie-is I can't do these things and neither can you, probably-we don't have the time and money. But isn't it best for everyone if the people who DO have the time, money and a microphone call attention to the important issues that the media ignores? Wouldn't you do the same in their position? If they just wanted media exposure they can simply attend an awards ceremony in a controversial fashion, or shave their heads-the media cares far more about trivial crap than they do about issues that actually effect real people.

21. meh
"stumbled upon", I guess, but don't think for a second that these people don't control their image and how it's distributed. These are snapshots taken by friends, that's for sure. I've seen Viggo Mortensen interviewed, and I know that I agree with his politics, but I also know that he has an image to maintain, and that certain political positions fit that, and that others don't. That doesn't mean that he doesn't really feel strongly about these things, but it does likely dictate how much he lets get out, and exactly what.

As far as "being in their position", I couldn't and wouldn't want to be. They are who they are because they're disgustingly rich from being in low brow movies made by giant movie studios. As far as I'm concerned, they work for the enemy. They can do whatever they want to do with their money, but I'd rather that they just get taxed until they're as poor as me and have their money go to giving American kids healthcare, schools, and a college education.

22. Well I guess I'm your enemy too, because I have a number of film credits
Edited on Thu May-22-08 01:49 AM by Lorien
some of them major blockbusters. I ain't rich, and neither are most people who make movies. Mortensen spent years scraping by-if it weren't for a film made in New Zealand by a failing studio he'd still be living a middle class lifestyle. I know many, many actors who would be instantly familiar to you who have to go on unemployment from time to time because MOST in the industry never reach celebrity status. Do you know what the average yearly earnings are in Hollywood? 30k. I don't even need to tell you about the cost of living there, either. People get into film making usually because they love film. Making movies isn't easy; my work weeks were normally 80 hours long when I was in the industry. Pretty standard. I'm too worn out to do it any more. Why should anyone get punished for working their ass off? For those that do actually manage to get rich doing it well hell, good for them, they are most definitely in the minority. I'm glad that some of them are doing good things with their riches. The owners of Wal-Mart sure as hell aren't, so someone has to set a positive example.

I personally seriously doubt that Mortensen does much of anything to message his image in so cynical a fashion as what you've described. He's very much involved with several non-profit organizations that my cousin chairs, and nobody outside of those organizations knows much of anything about it. He also has his own small press which helps to bring recognition to budding artists, musicians, writers and poets. And those I know who have worked with him on the set say that he actually hates the film INDUSTRY, but genuinely loves the creative people that he's involved with on the projects. I feel exactly the same way about it, but I no longer have the intestinal fortitude and nonstop energy needed to survive in that world.

No one is your enemy because their hard work has brought them success unless their work consciously victimized others in some way. McDonalds has done more harm to the planet than any film has, yet none of us demonize the cashiers and sandwich makers who work there.

18. I am a weak and clearly, a soulless female.
I voted for set one. There was a time however, when I voted for "size matters" vs. "it's the magic of the magician," and I have since been proved naive and ridiculous. This might happen if Angelina Jolie shows up at my front door asking to borrow a cup of sugar.

23. Kind of depends on my mood.
There's more personality in the second set, but the first set has a smoldering intimacy, even if faked.

24. Set A
Cleavage and an inviting look.

Makes me want to accept the invitation and explore the depths of the cleavage.

She's being sexual, and that makes me want to be sexual.

B says "Busy busy, maybe later".

Of course, I'm a man, and therefore a pig! :-)
