I love beginning my day with a nasty e-mail |
|
I got a letter from a local musician yesterday saying he would donate to our radio station only if we played his CD more; right now only one program host is playing it. I wrote back explaining that the FCC would consider that payola and is illegal, that we don't playlist our music programs; what is played is up to each individual host based on what our music director puts in the library (which has 50,000 CDs). I encouraged him to continue to sending his CDs to our music director, thanked him for his previous support, and amended his account to receive no further solicitations per his request.
This morning I received his reply sarcastically thanking me for my 'form letter' (it wasn't), telling me that all of our hosts have 'cozy arrangements' to play their buddies' CDs (they don't), that increasing airplay if he sends a contribution isn't illegal (it is), and just general jerkiness.
How I wished I'd sent the response I wanted to which is "If you'd put out better music, you'd hear your CD more." However I dismissed that as petty and unprofessional. Silly me.

3. That takes me back to my days in Consumer Affairs. |
|
And I had to appease or compensate them in some way, no matter how absurd the complaint. Some people have a lot of nerve.

5. I cannot imagine the crap you have to put up with. |
|
I think you should have sent the first response, all the while making note of his bribery attempt.

6. I also should've told him we'd try to limp along without his $25 |
|
Which he gave about four years ago.

There is payola in the music biz (as in every) but it's not only illegal, it's unethical. Good for you for standing firm and refusing an obvious attempt at bribery.

8. Sounds just like a musician that I know.... |
|
He keeps recording demo after demo after demo, sending them out, then proceeds to harass the recipients. To say these demos are utter crap is being infinitely kind- The boy is tone deaf, but insists that he's the only one who can sing his songs properly. I'm SO glad I'm not on his mailing list anymore....
