I would just tell the authorities you are an illegal immigrant from West Africa.

9. Alas, when they tried that on Top Gear... |
|
...they didn't make it out of Dover Harbour.
I really don't know why they didn't just use a Volkswagen Beetle: Herbie was always doing stuff like that in the movies.

11. Aha, not true. (spoiler) |
|
Actually, on first try...okay, the first few tries, they didn't, but Jeremy's truck DID successfully cross the channel.
And they'd NEVER use the Beetle. They collectively loathe the Beetle.

...they finally got across. Quite how the image of those perplexed French people on the beach slipped my mind, I'll never know.
And yes, the Beetle is, if possible, lower in their estimation than even the loathed caravan. They dragged themselves across Botswana in the skeletons of cars, rather than suffer the shame of driving the Beetle backup car.

Amsterdam is AWESOME!!!
Couple of things I thought were great were the Van Gogh museum, a canal tour, frites shops, having a space cake for breakfast, Indonesian food, checking out all of the different coffee shops. I highly recommend one called Siberie in the Jordaan district. They all have their own little scene, but this one is super comfortable and not divey at all. That's what I like about smoking in Amsterdam. There's no stigma.
I can't wait to get back there one of these days.

I took the train from Victoria. Then the ferry. The another train. It was a sleepless all night affair - not the fun sort. But then, I was a backpacker, and it was all adventure.
As a side note: Many times, nice young women would choose me to snuggle up with on overnight train journeys. Later, as hitchhiking partners. Ahhh, Europe was so nice to me...
