TM said that the fact that I won't send her any money means
I'm a bad mom.

What a farkin' ingrate. :eyes:

Told her to work and put her money in the bank. Did she listen? Nope. Had to go to eat at Chipolte, and Panera and whereever.

I told her if she needs money, she needs to get a fucking job.

And, yes. I said fucking. :grr:

get a job you fucking lazy pain in my ass.

Jesus. She's probably one of maybe 2-3 of her friends who will have no loans to pay back and the only thing we asked was that she get a job and put her money away to spend at college.

She neglected to do that and I'm tired of sending her money.

4. TBH I'm sort of like her
I had no loans to pay back for my first few years of college, had to get a job, but didn't.

Guess what, my mom stopped paying for me. :P

I should've got the job (I did do some tutoring here and there, especially during the summer).

5. It's not going to be pretty, but she needs to learn that money
doesn't grow on trees.

When I went to college, I had no loans, either, but I worked my ass off every summer doing whatever job I could get so that I would have money for spending when I was in school.

She wants me to send her $100 a month. :grr: On top of the $1600 plus per month her school costs, (thereabouts)

Her friends have money because they worked and put it in the bank. She didn't. Tough shit.

11. I just won't do it.
On principle alone. I can afford to do it, but I don't think I should. There's nothing wrong with a kid having a job and saving up to spend their money at college.

Hell, one of my friend's kids is paying for herself to go to the University of Virginia. She's a senior. Has cost her $80,000 so far.

My kid is lucky. She just doesn't know it.

When I was a kid they had these things called water-fountains (or as some of y'all call them "bubblers") and you could get all the drinking water you wanted...and it was free! Oh good times...good times. I wonder what ever happened to those.

Maybe that one about the kid who goes to college and doesn't save up money and ends up having to start a prostitution ring for witches and drug dealers, only to die two weeks later and spend eternity being goosed by DS1.

21. She has no idea how lucky she is.
She has a friend who ended up at the community college because there wasn't enough money to send her to school. Even on top of some grants, etc., that I helped her to get.

I just don't think it's unreasonable to expect her to save the money she earns so that she's not asking us. ESPECIALLY since her father's checks were screwed up because they didn't think he had returned to work after he was in the hospital.

Damn kid.

I told my husband the other day that there has to be a happy medium between one of my friends who essentially does everything for her kids and buys everything they want and another person I know who made her kids buy all of their clothes, extra foods. etc. (and money wasn't an issue. Dad retired at 40 simply because he didn't want to work anymore)

One can penny pinch and still eat at those place though.

Never buy a soft drink, and in the case of Chipotle, only eat half or two thirds of the burrito, because I doubt most people need 1k calories it provides; then save the rest for a snack.

That'll turn her around real quick. Tell her there's a new deal, and if she doesn't like it, tough. Kids like that need a wake up call. She can work at Starbucks or Panera. If she's embarrassed, let her know that no one looks down on those who work while in college. And if nothing else, she will have a work history when she gets out of college. Employers love that.

That's why you went scurrying out to wreck your minivan when she said she was in the hospital (without further clarification); bad, bad mom.

That's why you dashed up there to collect her and nurse her back to health when she had strep; bad, wicked, horrible mom.

That's why you took the hose to matcom when you found him lurking in the bushes outside her window wearing only a trenchcoat; nasty, horrid, terrible mom.
