Bless this poor child's heart. An innocent defenseless little boy! 2 weeks without food?

That sounds horrible I know, but how can someone do that to a little baby? There is a special place in hell for people like these.

But the death penalty is probably the only political issue where I am absolute on in opposition. No exceptions whatsoever.

27. I feel like it's one of the metaphors that get at our true nature.
It's hard for me to dig killing people for killing people. I hope these women get the books thrown at them and they spend their lives reflecting on their own coldness.

These cases make it damn hard to be opposed to the death penalty. If proven guilty, the last thing these two deserve is three meals a day.

than letting them go to their eternal rest. But when you put it that way...

36. I see their eternal rest as being pretty hot.
But that is my belief. Of course I have no way of knowing who actually goes to hell, but these people seem like they could be good candidates. I hate saying that too. Forgiveness is huge in my book, but this is a hard thing to forgive. I don't wish hell on anyone, but....

12. No Death Penalty for these two.....
Instead, they are held in Solitary for life as the sound of a crying toddler is piped, excruciatingly loudly, into their never darkened cells. If they need to be force fed, so be it.

I got no tolerance for Child Abuse......NONE.

16. To paraphrase Josh Lyman from "The West Wing":
"Death would be too easy for them. Life in prison. They ought to spend the rest of their lives looking at pictures of babies. Eight hours a day, seven days a week. And then every night at lights out, they'd get a punch in the mouth. By a different person every day. There'll be volunteers lined up around the block."

Life in prison is endless suffering. Death is the end of it. Let 'em suffer the rest of their natural lives...

20. That's absolutely sickening - it sounds like a lot more people need to be charged
including the MDHS people who completely dropped the ball (maybe they should just be fired) and the other members of the family who knew what was going on.

It's odd that there's no mention of the child's father, just that he was removed from his mother's care...

23. I remember the morning I heard that Tim McVey
(also a child murderer) had been executed and thinking "good ridance you sick fuck, I hope you enjoyed your last few minutes."

I'm usually against DP, but there are times when I could dance at the very prospect.

This story makes me feel that way.

24. And yet, executing him didn't bring anyone back to life.
Which brings home the point that the death penalty is simply mankind's futile attempt to pretend they can somehow manage evil in this world by killing a person and then proclaiming it justice.

44. I am also mostly against the DP but there are times when I'm less against it
But, I don't think I've celebrated it being imposed. There are just times, like with Tim McVeigh. He was a cold, remorseless, evil entity. Hearing him speak in that interview before his death was like ice on the soul.

Or in the case of Ted Bundy. A fiend if ever there was one.

I'm not sorry they are gone. I am glad they will never hurt or influence another person again. However, I still didn't celebrate the actual act that took them off the planet.

If used at all, I would want to see the death penalty used only against human monsters like these, the worst of the worst. I'd liken it to dispatching a rabid dog. It should be something done in extremely rare instances, and certainly without any sense of glee or even vengeance. Killing a rabid dog is an awful thing. But it's something necessary. Thankfully, it's also now also rare, something most people have only seen in movies.

I think the death penalty should be the same way; reserved for the Bundy's and McVeigh's of the world, those rare few deemed too dangerous to exist even behind concrete walls and razor wire.

Sunday-brunch buffet. And they should have to smell the food as well, not just look at it.

34. You are missing part of the point about the death penalty.
Regardless of how horrific the crime, killing the perpetrators makes all of us murderers. It diminishes the value of human life in our society, and sets a very bad example for the more impressionable members of our society. Unless you agree that its a good thing to kill if you kill "bad" people, and if you do agree with that, you need to realize that every individual has a different definition of "bad".

35. I am not missing the point at all.

I typically hate the death penalty for that reason. Punishing someone by doing the exact thing they are being punished for. But there are instances where it may be warranted IMO. Nothing is much worse than torturing a helpless child.
