**The Mist** (SPOILER ALERT)
I saw this last weekend, and boy did it piss me off. "The Mist" was one of my all-time favorite Stephen King short stories, and 99% of the movie followed it exactly. And then, in the final 2 minutes, director Frank Darabont tacked on a new ending that is as pointless as it is infuriating. It's almost as if Darabont was trying to make the first horror film to win an Academy Award, so he added a needlessly tragic ending as Oscar bait.

If he had had the courage to end the movie that way King ended his story, it would have been one of my all-time favorite monster movies. Instead, I hate it.

So there.

1. I liked the new ending.
And so did King. It's not like the story had this great uplifting message at the end. At least in the movie, they didn't leave the fates up in the air.

2. It's not that the ending is downbeart. I don't mind downbeat endings.
It's that it doesn't even fit thematically with anything that came before it. What's the point of that ending? What is it trying to say?

I did read that King liked the new ending. I disagree with him.

3. Why does it have to say anything?
It's just an ending. I will say this though, whether you disagree with the ending or not, it took balls to end the movie like that and that is why I am very much looking forward to Darabont's version of The Long Walk.

4. It took balls to end it that way, but my god did I want to punch someone in the face afterwards
It is a GREAT movie- probably one of the best adaptations of King's horror stories.
But that ending.. really ripped me up!
