I am WAY over and done with felines.....

For the record, I am really more of a dog person but I don't dislike cats for the greatest part. I don't personally own any pets for the moment, as I'm liking the freedom of not having one to take care of.

My roommate has 3 of cats, and they're mostly OK. He could clean their litter boxes more often, but I can't blame the cats for that. But a couple of weeks ago, he agreed to harbor a friend's 3 cats. That makes 6 cats (all male) and two humans living in a 1600 Sq. Ft. house. It's just too much. I keep my door closed at ALL times, because I don't want them in there knocking stuff off of my dresser.

2 of the cats being harbored are un-neutered and have taken to spraying. Roommate (who owns the house) was NOT amused and decided to crate them when nobody was around. That just ticked them off, so they started spraying things right in front of him, and now they're crated permanently (actually, several crates zip-tied together- one of which has a litter box in it).

I'm sorry, but this is just too much trouble to go through. The next pet I get will be a rock.

Don't get me wrong- this isn't a cat-hating thing. It's a stupid human hating thing- their real owner, and my roommate (to a much lesser extent- he was trying to be nice, and it backfired on him).

Why did he agree to do this? It's definitely a recipe for disaster, especially with un-neutered males.

My Leon sprayed for nearly 2 weeks after he was neutered, and it was all I could do to keep him. I feel sorry for you with two intact males. I have no words of advice, if neutering them isn't an option. You do have my sympathy, though.

15. Neutering males is fairly inexpensive, as I recall.

Spaying costs a lot more, because it's major surgery. But neutering, based on my experience with the Humane Society, is quick and not too pricey.

17. Well, the neutering itself wouldn't cost much....

but the owner did not deliver their paperwork for the cats' vaccinations (or it was never done in the first place- at this point, I can't be sure).

So, in order for them to be neutered, they would have to also be vaccinated and such. My roommate priced it out (because he WAS considering it), and it appeared that the total would be in excess of $100 (that he may never see again). So he passed on it.

The "owner" is obviously irresponsible and probably will continue with excuses to NOT come get them anyway. Who the fuck declaws cats and doesn't neuter?

if it were my decision, I'd already be looking for another home for them. Other than the spraying, they're pretty nice cats (one of them, at least- the younger one is a bit nasty but probably trainable).
