8. Roles don't define who a person is.
Eastwood has also directed/produced such films as Bird and Letters from Iwo Jima; not exactly something a racist would put such an investment into.

14. Not really.
And to suggest that a role defines a person is to dip a toe into an ocean of silliness, which is something I don't usually see you do. To flippantly suggest that his Dirty Harry films make him a racist is downright silly, especially without further evidence.

Last I checked, Tom Hanks was not an astronaut, assassin, AIDS patient or mentally retarded, either.

If you have any evidence at all that Eastwood is a racist, I'd love to see it.

The Dirty Harry films were notably racist. And rather homophobic.

31. Eastwood's the one that got an Oscar for making a Western film with NO heroes
Edited on Thu Jan-08-09 03:34 PM by CreekDog
one that in revisionist style, cast things that had been told before in a highly critical light.

and in this latest movie, he stars as a man who only finds redemption in

1) seeing his neighbors as human beings rather than racial stereotypes

2) finding the meaning of a father-son relationship from a stranger of another race rather than from his own sons

3) understanding the damage his familiar violent ways of solving problems wrought

4) sacrificing everything in a non violent way for a greater good

Are you sure this is just about a guy that likes to be racist? :eyes:

33. Eastwood's an overrated hack.
He's like Swartzenegger. The only thing Arnold can play is an emotionless robot. And the only thing Eastwood can play is an angry cowboy. Why they keep giving him Oscars is beyond me. Might as well make him Governor.

"Eastwood's the one that got an Oscar for making a Western film with NO heroes one that in revisionist style, cast things that had been told before in a highly critical light."

You're talking about Unforgiven? Eastwood included some historical accuracy that no Westerns had bothered with before. And we found out why because it's as boring as hell. Then he included the standard Hollywood cliches: the black guy that gets killed, the goofy newbie, the cartoonish villain, and then abandons historical accuracy for a classic Hollywood shoot-out, contradicting everything he set up before hand.

Clint Eastwood is the Toby Keith of Hollywood movies.

18. No, it shows a time and financial committment to movies that otherwise wouldn't be made.
And that's especially true in the case of Letters from Iwo Jima. The nutters on the right were incensed that he made that film; Eastwood has talked at length in interviews about WHY he made that film, and why it's important to know both sides of the history regarding that part of WWII.

As I said in my previous post, if you have any evidence at all that Eastwood is a racist, please post it.

Eastwood is a racist in the film who redeems himself by coming to the aid of his Hmong neighbors who are being terrorized by a local gang.

Not liking him is one thing (although he is great), but calling him a racist I am guessing because he is a republican is wrong. I would like instances in where he, CLint Eastwood, was racist.

You can't apply the the acceptability of stereotypes of today to things that happened a generation ago. 1971 was a much different time. C'mon the "Do you feel lucky?" scene is an all-timer.

This is the lounge, chill out. I don't have to like the same people you do. And not liking his politics is plenty enough reason to dislike him. I have some appreciation for him as a sexy piece of meat, during his bodybuilding period in the late-70s thru mid-80s, before he got too old. But that's as far as any admiration for him goes for me.

But I do have "Any Which Way But Loose" and "Heartbreak Ridge" downloaded for a prurient interest in Clint only. I also have "The Beguiled" downloaded, and that admittedly isn't a bad movie. But I still downloaded it for a prurient interest in Clint, I like that he's the sex object the women are fighting over.

I like that line, and I like Clint.

:toast:

I almost stopped by his restaurant when I was in the neighborhood. Somehow some way, a person that understands the flaws in himself and others, gets my respect. And he helps me to not judge with his films.

I think the Gauntlet was probably my favorite film.
