Am I that strange just because I like the smell of mangrove mud at low tide?

It seems that people have a problem with it's heavy, pungent, composted vegetation funkiness. Especially in the summer time.

But to me, it represents the richness of biota and decomposing matter. And the cycle of life. With a fragrance all it's own.

It's a place that a lot of birds and fish seem to appreciate. And crabs. Not to mention dolphins and manatees.

Is it just me?

2. It's a little on the heavy side. But real nature-like. I think it's an acquired sense.

5. Or the no-see-ums. But that's all part of it, I'm afraid. And the sharp oyster shells
that can really cut your feet, then get you infected because they have so much bacteria. Oh, and then there's getting lost, which a lot of people do.

Because the twisty little creeks don't always lead back home. Real bad during a t-storm or near night fall.

So then to recap. Mangroves not all that friendly. But still very cool.

4. sounds like you are jonesin' for a paddle trip.
I know I sure am. I've ordered some new floatation for my Neck Zoar Sport so I can load it down with camping gear and take it down the Altamaha here in Georgia. I cant wait for the water temp to rise just a little

6. Cool! Have certainly heard of your river. I'm down in FL right where the last of the mangroves
can survive. But you guys still have the rich mud smell up there, certainly. I paddled across the Okeefenokee Swamp for my 40th, I believe.

Then on the same weekend, went from Fernandina to Cumberland across the St. Marys during a huge cold front.

"Survival situation! I repeat, Survival situation!"
