Is it wrong of me to ask my neighbors what was going on the other night? |
|
An ambulance, a fire truck, and a rescue unit was at their house the night before last. My husband was coming home and came over the hill and thought something happened at my house with me and the baby. He just saw lights everywhere. He thought they were here. Anyway, we aren't close at all with these neighbors. We wave, and that is about it. My husband has talked to the man a couple of times. But that is about all of our contact.
Would we just be nosy? I am curious to know what happened. But I am concerned too. Would it be nosy to go over and ask if they are ok?

1. Seems like it would be ok to ask |
|
and if it was appropriate, to later take a casserole or some such similar gesture (not when you ask, a second trip)

2. I was worried because this is a young couple. |
|
The across the street neighbors are older. This same thing happened over there a couple of months ago at their house, but we knew Mr. Moody was eaten up with pancreatic cancer, so it was scary, but not shocking or unexpected. The next door couple is my age (which is weird that we don't really associate), so it makes it weirder, I guess.

4. You have nothing to lose and it'll satisfy your normal curiousity.... |
|
We're SOOOO incredibly lucky with our neighbors. We're in a historic district with an active neighborhood association and everyone knows everyone else. I'm really shy and its the first place where I've ever enjoyed living.

7. I think you live right up the road from me. I live in Brandon. |

I am glad you like where you live. For some reason we haven't ever been close with these neighbors. They moved in a couple of years ago. We speak occassionally. I guess I could just tell them I was concerned which is true.

9. Yeah, we're basically neighbors....Canton is really close to you.... |
|
The only reason we know our neighbors here now is because some crazy young out-of-state couples moved into the neighborhood and refused to tolerate the disrespect our local officials normally treat us with.
And an ambulance, fire truck and rescue unit would definitely pique my interest. Let us know later if there's anything to the story....

5. Shell...Maybe you could do the old fashioned thing and take over |
|
a casserole or a pie. If they are having someone in the hospital, I bet it would be appreciated.
Who knows.

8. They're devil worshippers. Shun them. |
|
They obviously did something wrong.
If they come to your house, threaten them.
That's what I'd do.

let them know you are concerned.Who knows, it might be something you can help with. Like keeping an eye out if someone is sick or something. Neighbors, ya know?

12. No, it's not wrong to ask. |

These people are your neighbors, and maybe they still need some type of assistance. They might be shaken by whatever it was, and need someone to listen. You could even apologize for seeming nosy.
Some years ago, I lived in a house with a woodburning stove that overheated. We called the fire department rather than take any risks. Boy, did that bring the neighbors out of the woodwork.
The nice neighbors came to the door and asked us what was wrong and if we were all okay. They offered help. But we had a couple of creeps, whom we hardly knew, who simply walked in and wandered around. I couldn't believe it.
I was glad to see the nice neighbors and to hear from others, even days later. It made us feel good about our neighborhood. It made me feel like I could reciprocate if they ever needed anything.
As far as the creeps who wandered around, I don't think they stole anything, and I don't care one way or the other what they thought of my housekeeping.

13. If it was me, I'd go ahead and ask them. |
|
If you're not comfortable with that, maybe you could ask another neighbor.
