Tell us something minor you hate about your hometown
Edited on Wed Jan-28-09 12:26 AM by HEyHEY
I mean the area you grew up in.

I hate the way I have to sit all manly in Pomo. If I sit even remotely un-manly, I'll get stared at.

1. Absolutely nothing.
I admit, when I was young I wanted nothing more than to be out of there. Small town America sucked. Now...I wouldn't mind being back there.

Okay, maybe the fucking cranberries. Ocean Spray is based in my hometown, and it's just all cranberries!

7. As do I, and in the same format.
But when your entire community is built on it, you get really tired of hearing about it.

BUT, it's kept the town afloat for quite some time, so I shouldn't bitch.

4. well, it's beautiful... but it's so bloody far from everything. The deer. I hate the deer at
dusk when I'm driving (which I always have to do because it's in the woods). The "village" isn't much help. It's a ghost town by 5:00pm. But it's gorgeous!

The deer. And the trek to and fro...

Nope. I forgot what I really hate. The thing that scares me worse than anything...

...........................the ticks...........................

They are evil.

Very evil...

10. No sidewalks along the main road.
It's a really small town, but along the main road? Seriously?

17. The "I work in Boston" crowd
They live here, commute to Boston (or in that general area), but have very little connection to the community and don't think they should have to pay taxes for schools. They rarely have kids, and if they do, they make enough to send them to private school. They've attempted to hijack the local politics and would love nothing better than to have the teachers all tossed out and get bad ones to work for peanuts because they don't give a fuck.

23. The people who are soon-to-be ex-city government.
We had a city income tax increase on the ballot in the general, which went down to a resounding defeat. It was for .5%, and was described as 'essential' for city government. No one, from the city manager to council could tell us exactly what the money would be used for.

Well, they lost, and they are putting it back up for a vote in a special election to be held last week of February. They just don't get it that they need to do with less, as incomes in my town have taken a hit, there are over a hundred foreclosed on bank-owned homes (in a community of 34,000), and jobs are nonexistent.

Case in point: They just purchased a ladder truck for the fire department for $275,000. We HAD a perfectly serviceable ladder truck, that was sold to another fire dept. and they are happy as all get out with the deal we gave them.

Want to know the reason why our town geniuses spent the money, when we didn't have to?

They said the new truck will be able to reach to the top of a five-story building, and the other one only went up to three stories.

Our city building code only allows for three-story structures. There will NEVER BE A FIVE-STORY BUILDING IN THIS TOWN. EVER.

The city actually was sued by a developer that wanted to build four-story apartment buildings, but he lost. The city told him they would never allow a structure over three stories to be built, and would never change the building code for it.

I just wonder who got the kick-back on that little deal.

24. Lack of a public indoor swimming pool.
Which they actually got around to building after I moved away.

I would say lack of a Barnes and Noble or Borders (the two large chain stores that I actually enjoy going to), but on the other hand, having to go at least 40 minutes to the nearest large bookstore made the experience a little more special. Now I have a Borders right down the street, a Barnes and Noble a couple miles away, and another B&N near my office, and while I love going a lot more often, it has lost some of its excitement.

hmmmmm...there are only two movie theaters in town and they're on the far side of town from me. there were six or so about 15 years ago, even though the population has grown about 50 percent since that time.

26. Too much red brick downtown.
Some brick color variations would look ever so much nicer. As it is, 90% of downtown is made of big, red brick buildings all clustered together. Ugh.
