I think that one of the obnoxious British soldiers in the 1950s-1960s uniforms is Charles "Chuckles" Widmore.

19. OK, so what is Jughead? |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-28-09 10:30 PM by graywarrior
In the earlier comics, Jughead's real name was a running gag mystery, and many episodes involved various characters trying to discover his real name, and Jughead thwarting their efforts. In one story Archie and Reggie attempt to find out Jughead's real first name. They go to the school office, and a woman there tells them that Jughead's real first name is Steve. After Archie and Reggie leave the office, the audience learns that the woman is actually Jughead's aunt and that she has just lied to Archie and Reggie as a favor to Jughead to help him cover up the fact that his first name is Forsythe. He is named after his ancestor who is an American hero. Jughead started to use his given name for a brief time in honor of his ancestor, but after learning that he was married nine times, reverted to his nickname.
Another mystery is the meaning of the "S" on his sweatshirt, which has still not been revealed to this day, though many stories have come close.

If Desmond and Jack and Ben and company all went back "today," we'd have to jump forward 3 years in baseline island time? That is, on island time, Jack and Kate and Sayid, etc. just got rescued "a couple of days ago" right?
So predictions. Will they those currently in LA go back in time or will they find the island and folks there to be three years beyond Sawyer washing ashore?

27. Well...in trying to frame it for my wife, a more "casual" viewer, |
|
I realized that part of her confusion was that the first two episodes of this season weren't concurrent with what was happening on the island. That is, the island is having some severe time dislocations, but so is the show itself. "Does Locke need to go backward or forward in time to save the island? And isn't he dead anyway?"

29. And if he got off the island 3-4 days after Sawyer washed up |

He'd be alive for roughly 3 years before he died in L.A., right?

30. I saw the "LOST" stamp meaning it was the end of the episode and I went "No...wait" |
|
No, not there, not now, just can't end an episode like that.
Damn!@%&!
A whole week to wait now.
I didn't watch the first four seasons as they happened, I watched four episodes every Monday on Sci Fi.
I'm not used to this.

interruptions, and feeling dropped off a cliff because I had the next disc right there.
Every week, my daughter (in Arizona) call each other up to discuss the show. It is fun.
so is the woman with the machine gun and the rolled braid Faraday's mom, Penny's mom, White Haired Lady, or none of the above?

34. I'm guessing that she might actually be Charlotte's mom |
|
And that Widmore might be Charlotte's dad. (Making Charlotte and Penny sisters/half-sisters.)
In the last episode of Season 4, we learned that Charlotte was born on the island. Also, both Widmore and Charlotte are English...
Dunno -- I'll be interested to see how the seasons unfolds. Something about the blonde with the gun left me pretty positive that we'll be seeing more of her. (She didn't really seem like a throwaway character.)

36. If she is the mom to any of them, they can't throw her away..... |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 10:13 PM by rainbow4321
No mom, no kid (Charlotte, Penny, etc...)..unless she has already given birth to that kid. So if the "mom" were to get killed (before having the kid) would the "grownup" version of the kid just vanish into thin air?
On edit: Ditto for the younger version of Widmore. He gets killed, no Penny (assuming she has yet to be born).

38. blonde with the gun would seem to be Ms. Hawking |
|
who is probably Faraday's Mom. The girl's name was Ellie. Ms Hawking's first name is Eloise (which is also the name of Faraday's rat back at Oxford).

37. Ok, so I FINALLY just watched this episode. HOLY CRAP! |
|
Then I had to search back three pages to find this thread just to post my thoughts. :D
Wow. Ok, so the Dharma Initiative didn't start until the 1970's. In this episode, we find out that Charles Whidemore was a young go getter on the island in the 1950's. He reluctantly answered to Richard. Richard answered to Jacob. Was Charles in any way involved with the formation of Dharma? The professors at the University of Michigan had to find out about the island some how in order to begin Dharma and to get it funded by Alvar Hanso. I think Dharma may be Charles' creation even though he started out as an "other". Meanwhile, Ben starts out as someone from Dharma, but then turns into an "other". Nice twist if true.
Now Ben and Charles are fighting over the island. Ben seems to be fighting on behalf of Jacob while perhaps Charles is fighting on behalf of scientific discovery? Faith vs Science. Ben vs Charles. John vs Jack.
Fun times!
