I was 30 seconds from getting in my car, driving somewhere and kicking the shit of someone. |

Motherfucker.
My best friend and her husband have been having problems for the last couple of weeks and tonight he says to her, "I don't think I'm in love with you anymore". But then he says he still want to work on it. Then leaves to hangout with his friends at work. So my best friend is on the phone with me sobbing her heart and I'm trying to think of things to say. But everything feels so shallow and unhelpful.
I calm her down and hangs up to go to bed and I'm standing there on the stoop of my building smoking cigarette after cigarette trying not to make a very bad decision. I work for the same company as him. I know where he is and all I want to do is drive over to the eastside location and put a few fucking dents in him.
Five years ago, I'd probably be in the back a squad-car about now. But I can no longer divorce myself from the consequences of my actions.
I'm so angry and sad for my friend. I just wish there was something I could do. Fuck!

1. You did what she needed - listened to her |

That will have helped more than all the dents you could put in the jerk. And since you are not in a squad car, you will be there for her when she needs you later - which she likely will.

2. You in jail wouldn't help anything. Glad you stopped yourself. |

What a great friend you are, to care that much about someone. Your frend is really very lucky to have you. I'd call her frequently and stay in touch while she's going through this crisis. I have been there and I had some good friends and family to lean on, but no one was ready and willing to avenge my honor the way you are for your friend.

You and I have never remotely agreed on anything here, I don't think.
BUT...I totally understand and can sympathize with what you're feeling. My very best friend is a woman, and she's getting screwed over by a guy...her fiance. Many of my other very good, close friends are women in the same boat.
I'm betting you find a way around putting dents in him, and I wish you much luck and success in that.
