16. I do not know if you are serious or not, |
|
but I like Oasis, but their production has been uneven. They have written some classic tunes and their fan base is gargantuan in Britain, but The Verve are a much better band and the songwriting is more unique and consistent.

39. Didn't they used to exist? |
|
I have a vague memory of some kind of primadonna cacophony being attributed to them in the mid-90s, but I can't quite recall for sure...

Never warmed up to Squeeze, but your other picks are definitely on the mark.
I was supposed to see Bad Lieutenant (3/4 of New Order) before that goddamn volcano trapped them in England and led to the show being scrapped. I'm thinking about using the refund to see Echo in Boston a week from Monday.

11. I'd love to see Echo again. |
|
Saw them at the Greek Theater at UC Berkeley in '87 -- great show.
BTW, I'd also add The Cure to my list.

|
They are the most influential band of the era. If you want, combine them with their New Order incarnation.

18. I didn't know Radiohead was Brit. |
|
And Gabriel went solo before '77. Accordingly:
The Clash Radiohead The Police U2 The Smiths
I admit, U2 hasn't been all that for a decade plus, but twenty years ago they were truly great.

|
It was like being reunited with an old friend. What a great album from first song to last! Same goes for "Boy," "Unforgettable Fire" and "Joshua Tree." After those albums it gets a little spotty.

34. Last time I checked, the British Isles consisted of: |
|
England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Scots are British. Welshmen are British. Englishmen are British. And Irishmen are British.
Now, had the question been about the best English bands, I would have answered differently. Really, it's like saying Sarah Palin's not an American because she's from Alaska. Ireland is a British isle.

technically, they're Welsh, but close enough I guess. Plus gotta give props to a band originally named The Toilets.
