What's the cheapest responsible way to dispose of a Lithium cellphone battery?
Mine died and I had to replace it. I know that just
throwing it in the trash isn't an option, and I'm
a VERY limited budget. Any suggestions are much
appreciated. :)

7. Heh, good point
I have bought so many things from ebay (including batteries) where I have wondered if they might send dead ones, but they never have.

2. My local library has a couple bins for used cell phones and used batteries.

If yours doesn't, maybe your town / city hall does. Call your local town hall or your congressman and ask them what's in your area.

Another option: just stop by your local Best Buy and leave it at the counter. They'll know how to dispose of it.

3. Check to see if your municipality has a household hazardous waste facility
Mine does.

You can take stuff like old appliances and fluorescent bulbs.

5. Most electronics stores have recycling bins set up for such things.
Otherwise call your cell phone company and ask, they'll probably send you a postage paid mailer for it.

8. If you have a Batteries Plus (or similar) store, they'll just take them.
They recycle any kind of rechargeable battery.

12. Many areas have toxic waste disposal sites
You can just drive-up and drop off. They specialize in handling old TV's, stereos, computers, etc.

Some electronics stores also have recycling and disposal bins.
