Anybody familiar with Laura Nyro? From them old days |
|
I just discovered her about 40 years late. Wish I would have known of her when I was young. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjdowef1oKEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwSNbC9zK-w&feature=relatedApparently she was scared of appearing on the stage. She wrote some awesome music. Died way too early of ovarian cancer.

1. I'm always curious about very successful singers... |

. . . . ...who had stage fright. . . I've told this story MANY times, but the phenomenon still fascinates me, so I'll probably tell it many more... but when I sang in a band, I used to HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE that the power would go out before a show so that I wouldn't have to get up on that stage. . We never had a single "tough room" -- although we worked for two years before setting foot on a stage, we were a true "overnight success" once we started playing out, so it's not like I ever had a traumatic experience that might justify it. . That feeling (both before and 30 seconds into the show) NEVER changed one bit. . I've read that Ricky Lee Jones sometimes gets physically ill before shows... and that Carly Simon had near-disabling stage fright. . What gives? . . . . . BTW, Laura Nyro's voice IS beautiful and rich, though that first video was a little sharp for my taste. .
